Airbus A380 engines to be replaced if needed: SIA

SINGAPORE : Singapore Airlines (SIA) said it will continually inspect its Airbus A380 superjumbos' Rolls-Royce engines and replace them, if needed.

It said all checks done so far are in compliance with manufacturers' recommendations and instructions.

The airline was responding to reports that Rolls-Royce may replace up to 40 of its engines on A380s flown by Australian carrier Qantas.

This follows a mid-air explosion earlier this month which caused a Qantas A380 enroute to Sydney to make an emergency landing in Singapore.

SQ242 is the last ex-SYD SQ flight for the day.

I dont think anyone could tell you for sure here. But in my opinion, you will be more likely looking at a 777-300. I think they will continue to extend those aircraft swaps out for a few more weeks yet.

Yep I am expecting my flight in the middle of December to swapped as well, dont think they can swap engines with new ones that quickly.

              I see. Thanks for answering.

Any map of that particular 777-300? I notice there is different types of 777 you guys type here.

              77W / 77A and so on.

Is there any entertainment onboard? Normal small screen?

Internet check in is also another problem. If it stated a380 and you selected your seats. Will the same number applies in the new swap aircraft?

It will have personal TV's. IT may or may not be On Demand.

By the time online check-in is open I would suggest that they will have swapped it to 777-300 so you will be able to select seats based on the aircraft you will actually fly on.

I checked the booking status or something like that..it remains as a380. Is that accurate?

When I did the internet check-in, it was a B773 seat map. On the actual day, the aircraft was switched to B744. Our seats were the same, except that when we got to our seats we were wondering... "ehhh... how come suddenly we are next to the Galley??"....

Depends on whether the same seat number exists on the switched aircraft. I checked-in on A380 upper deck row 77. When the aircraft was switched, they just randomly slot you in to other available Y seats.

On the return flight, I checked-in row 52 on B773. The actual aircraft was a B744, we still got the same row 52.

Are you able to get choose seats again after you completed the internet booking?

Lets say you get XXHK seats on a380. In the end its an 773 you want another XXAC seats instead.

Can you request on the spot at the counter?

Yes, I believe, you can request at airport check-in. BUT if the flight is full or only single seats left then you can't lor... unless the 2 of u don't mind being seperated. When they switched our aircraft from A380 to B744, they needed to bumped-off 89 pax. The flight become oversold instantly, so there was no way that we could freely select other seats. Many groups of people were kind of seperated from each other in the end. I saw Mum + 2 kids were together and Dad sitting 2 rows behind.
