Krisworld keeps breaking down?

I didn't quite mean a sound. With most devices these days you know when you have pressed the button that you have engaged it fully (think camera shutters or menu buttons). You don't actually need a sound, just a physical response. My tv remote control is better than SQ's remote in terms of knowing that you have engaged the button correctly.

Yes I was a bit on the wrong track, but what you are saying would need a hardware change, so you might just as well change the CPU.Originally posted by ozdude View PostI didn't quite mean a sound. Okay just back from 4 A380 flights.
9V-SKK - My TV needed 2 full resets after just freezing up and going to a black screen. The partners screen needed 2 full resets and then she gave up after it froze for a 3rd time
9V-SKJ - Three flights on this plane... Bit of variety next time please..... Each flight for myself and the partner the IFE froze once but reset by itself in about 1 min. I had once white screen and then reset.
So 4 flights - 2 people travelling
100% fail rate on the IFE.....

Wouldnt necessarily mean a hardware change. Im not sure of the KrisWorld system but you could upgrade to SAS or SSD drives in the system. This would make the disks run faster, assuming it doesnt have them already. Another option could be to put more RAM in the system. I am sure they have purchased hardware so you can do this. Also maybe optimise the software.Originally posted by Singapore Sling View PostYes I was a bit on the wrong track, but what you are saying would need a hardware change, so you might just as well change the CPU.

I think the hard drive interface would hold back the SSD drives and it probably would not speed things up much, film loading and boot up is quick anyway, its the CPU side that slows it down. RAM is much more likely to help, if it is possible to fit any more. A software code rewrite would be the cheap fix, they could remove the bugs at the same time.
FlyBoy 100% fail rate, that beats me, but I am not to far behind.

Just flew back on the A380 from Paris to Singapore. My IFE self reset 17 times ! After watching something for a while, I suddenly get light grey lines on the screen and then a few seconds later it goes white. Then the system self resets and you have to start again. The crew reset my system a few times but to no avail. I got the impression that it was a common problem although nobody would admit it. I have had this problem with increasing frequency on both the 77W and the A380. Seems to be a real problem and is becoming increasingly irritating.
I also agree that the latency between pressing buttons and something happening is also becoming worse.
What with still shabby business class seats particularly on the 77W and an IFE system that is not out bettered by other lines, I wonder how SQ can continue to charge such outrageous premiums for their "new" business class (how old is it now ...?)
Cheers

I was on 4 recent flights on 777 and needed full re-set on all flights after loosing or not having any sound. It wasn't just my chair but on the three chairs on the opposite side of the isle as well.
I don't take fin numbers or anything so can't tell if it was the same metal but that was to both Beijing and Hong Kong where i had pre-booked the same seat for all flights. I really can't believe i was on the same plane four times in three weeks though.

My wife experienced problems on both legs of her J class trip to HK but later in the month i had no issues in YOriginally posted by cscs1956 View PostSee my post #6.
It seem getting worse !
Whe she complained, i quoted this thread and received this response
"We would like to convey our appreciation to cplh for sharing with us
the link to the SQtalk forum. It is of concern to learn that our passengers
have had less than satisfactory experiences with our Inflight Entertainment
system. May I assure you that our Engineering and Inflight Entertainment teams are taking steps to improve the reliability of our system. At the same time, the teams monitor the performance of our system on a regular basis to ensure that we meet the service level and standards set."

My system wasn't working on DPS-SIN last week. I selected a TV programme and while I got the correct sound the screen kept showing a film instead of the programme. Crew tried to reset a couple of times but I told them not to bother in the end.

To quote Justin Bieber...
"Never Say Never"
I encountered this problem finally on 9V-SYI on SQ967 on Monday evening from CGK-SIN in Seat 11A:

A reset seemed to fix it, but subsequently, every bit of turbulence or movement of the arm of the display would result in some horrible sreen-tearing. Think it's a case of damaged wiring, though.
