I thought Singapore had concluded open skies agreements with several countries e.g. Czech, Portugal, Scandinavia...can't SQ fly e.g. CPH-LIS and pick up pax on the route?

      MAN-MUC fares announced

Competitive fares will be offered by SIA when it links Manchester with Munich at the end of March.

This unusual routing for SIA has come about because of SIA’s decision to operate its long-standing Manchester-Singapore service via Munich rather than, as at present, non-stop.

Fares were unavailable at the time we announced details of the service (see online news December 15, 2009) but Business Traveller can now reveal that SIA will have attractive rates in economy and business class.

According to SIA’s website, the carrier will be charging flat rates of £87 one-way from Manchester with a return priced at £157. Business class will cost £357 and £601 return respectively. By contrast first class is priced at a costly £759 and £1,271.

SIA will operate five B777-300ER flights a week on the route. These planes are configured with the carrier’s most up-to-date premium products. SIA will be competing with Lufthansa which flies three times a day and Easyjet which flies five times a week.

Lufthansa and Easyjet price according to when you book and when you travel. During April, Lufthansa has return economy class rates ranging between £98 and £223 with business class offered from £666 to £1,047. Currently Easyjet typically charges upwards of £75 return during April but its prices will rise nearer departure time.

Although Lufthansa has the most convenient schedules there are still advantages in flying SIA. A big selling point is service quality in all classes and the luxury of sampling a fully-flat business class seat in a spacious four-across (1-2-1) layout on the wide-bodied B777-300ER.

Readers who find one of SIA’s flight sectors inconvenient might prefer to ‘mix and match.’ That is you would buy a one-way ticket so as to use Lufthansa or Easyjet for the outward or return sector.

Flights will operate daily except Tuesday and Thursday. SQ328 departs Manchester at 0920 to reach Munich at 1335. Inbound service SQ337 leaves Munich at 0635 to arrive in Manchester at 0800.

Its also considerably cheaper than Lufthansa for a crappy regional buisness class seat or the slightly better Swiss flight (via ZRH of course). LX does have v cheap fares in J though

Nah it's not, actual flying time is about 90 minutes. Just done MUC-MAN this morning. It may look like that on the timetable but don't forget the 1 hour time difference.

Ironically enough we did SIN-MUC-MAN. SIN-MUC was heavily overbooked, and what was supposed to be four of us in F became full complement of eight and they left twenty people behind according to the purser.

I can almost certainly confirm for you guys, that the 77W to be used for the SIN-MUC-MAN flight will come from the ZRH one, which would go to become a 388 daily.

The SQ to ZRH A380 thread should come up soon. Details there.

I was thinking of going to Eastern Europe for my next Europe trip(after I did one just 6 months ago, but to Western Europe), and was thinking of taking either the inaugural 77W to Munich and going East, or flying the 388 to Zurich and then go East, both being on the 28th March(+1 for the Munich one)...

Will be going on the A380 inaugural to Zurich instead of the 77W inaugural to MUC... Anyone on the inaugural too?

                          Singapore Airlines Launches Munich Services

                          29 March 2010

Singapore Airlines launched its inaugural flight to Munich last night, when SQ 328, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, departed Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 at 2245hrs. The aircraft is scheduled to arrive at Munich’s Franz Josef Strauß Airport at 0535hrs today and at 0635hrs will depart Munich for Manchester (all times local).
Ms Christiana Markert, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Singapore, joined Singapore Airlines’ customers and staff in witnessing the addition of Munich to the SIA network. Customers were also treated to refreshments and presented with a goodie bag comprising a customised beer stein and commemorative flight certificate.

The return flight, SQ 327, will take place later today, 29 March, with the aircraft departing Manchester at 0920hrs and arriving in Munich at 1225hrs. It will then depart from Munich at 1335hrs and arrive in Singapore at 0740hrs on 30 March (all times local).

Customers travelling to Munich have much to look forward to with the new five-times-weekly flights. Home to Oktoberfest, the world’s largest folk and beer festival, and many renowned international companies, the city is also well-known for famous landmarks. These include Neuschwanstein Castle, often depicted as the fairy-tale castle of King Ludwig II and the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle, as well as the spectacular Bavarian Alps.

Munich is Singapore Airlines’ second destination in Germany after Frankfurt, which is served with two daily flights, one of which carries on to New York. The addition of Munich to Singapore Airlines’ network will provide customers with greater connectivity and ease in travelling to this outstanding city and the surrounding region.

Customers travelling on the new Singapore-Munich-Manchester vv service will enjoy the Airline’s latest product offerings, including a First Class seat which converts into the industry’s largest full-flat bed, a 30-inch lie-flat Business Class seat, the widest in its class, and an Economy Class seat ergonomically designed to provide an unprecedented level of comfort and space. All seats in all three classes also feature the newest version of Krisworld, Singapore Airlines’ award-winning inflight entertainment system, with more than 1000 on-demand options.

Customers travelling to and from Manchester will also enjoy more flight choices, up from the existing three flights a week.

At least those who like widebodies for short-haul destinations won't have to look any further.
