while poor loads are a major factor, one has to also see that competition is hot & kikking SQ's drab 744 on the sector. remember what SQ did to DEL & BOM when jet airways came to SIN from there.

CX has double dailies with the 74A & even UA is brining in its revamped product.

SQ had been left out with its older offering for some time now & before getting snubbed out, got wise to up its mantle by doing the 77W on this perennially popular route.

the A380 is sure to fly this route but only time will tell.

    • Are there any news about the new destinations for MSN019 -> 9V-SKG / MSN021 -> 9V-SKH?

The post above was posted in October 2008.
It was not correct that the French-speaking crew were undergoing A380 training at that time.

French-speaking crew will start the A380 training in February next month! Have fun guys! Make sure a perfect training for the R-class! A Class Beyond First!

It's a hint. But I don't know exactly when. As you may read in another thread, that LHR has a lower load at the moment, which resulted in reduction of 744 flights. Thus the possibility of the new arrival would go somewhere else.

            • The rumor is that CDG will be the next one to get A380 as the load especially in C remains very strong...it looks like it will replace one of the 77W flight.

Is the CDG choice only because of the load figures or also for marketing purposes (SQ A380 in Paris BEFORE AF A380) ???

That's more of a bonus than anything else. It's a bit of a case of the best of a bad choice in the current environment.

It was going to LHR first, then CDG, then LHR, ZRH and FRA were under consideration now it's CDG again. A daily A380 can release the 10 x weekly 77W for deployment elsewhere. Having said that, that's another head scratcher as everywhere is suffering at the moment.

SQ25/26 was supposed to be going 77W, a benefit being German speaking crew are already working on the 77W. But that is apparently being reconsidered as well.

                    Funny times...

Going from 744 to 77W would be a downgauge which should be helpful now that load is sliding. SQ should accelerate retirement of 744s during this down turn.

                        • Bonjour Singapore Airlines A380!

                          19 January 2009

From 1 June 2009, Singapore Airlines will fly the world’s largest passenger plane, the Airbus A380, on its Singapore-Paris route.

The daily A380 flights between Singapore and Paris will replace the existing 10 times weekly 278-seat Boeing 777-300ER operations. Configured with 471 seats, the introduction of a daily A380 on the Paris route will allow Singapore Airlines to match the growing demand of seats from both corporate and leisure customers, and better contribute to the economic development between France and the Asia-Pacific region.

Paris is the Airline's fourth A380 destination, its first in Continental Europe, and its second in Europe after London. Singapore Airlines already flies the A380 daily to Sydney and Tokyo, and twice a day to London.

“Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris is one of the busiest airports in Europe in terms of passenger traffic. The A380, with its large seating capacity, is well placed to fly there. With the aircraft’s substantial fuel burn reductions per seat kilometre, it also provides a cleaner, greener alternative for long haul travel,” said Mr Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines’ Executive Vice-President, Marketing and the Regions.

Like the B777-300ER, customers on the Singapore Airlines A380 will experience the finest cabin products. The ergonomically designed new Economy Class seat not only maximises knee and legroom, it also boasts intelligent features such as a non-intrusive reading light and height adjustable leather headrests with side panels.

Due to the increased cabin width on the A380, the Business Class seats are even wider. Measuring 86 centimetres (34 inches), each seat has direct access to the aisle, and converts into a fully flat bed within seconds.

The A380 also features the revolutionary Singapore Airlines Suites, a new and luxurious class of travel. Each Suite, enclosed by sliding doors for privacy, is fitted with a leather-upholstered seat, a 23-inch LCD screen for inflight entertainment, and a full-sized flat bed that is separate from the seat.

The product was recognised as the “Best Airline Suite” in the Wallpaper* Magazine Awards 2008 as well as “Best First Class - A380” by TravelWeekly Asia Industry Awards (China) 2008.

Across all three classes, KrisWorld, the world’s most comprehensive inflight entertainment system, offers more than 1,000 on-demand options in every seat.

Singapore Airlines currently has six A380s in service, a further 13 on firm order, and options on six more. The introduction of the A380 on the Paris route will follow the delivery of the seventh and eighth A380s in the first half of 2009.

SQ334 departs from Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3. Customers should proceed to Terminal 3 to check in for this flight.

SQ332/SQ331 will cease operations on 2 June 2009.

                              SQ 231/232 to get a daily 77W.
SQ 376/375 SIN-DXB-DME to get the 77W too.

Would this not reduce the operating time of the 77W's quite significantly and thus leave space for the 77W's to operate a daily short-haul service as well such as another 77W to HKG, MNL, CMB etc?
