PTVs might not make economic sense to MI since many flights are only 1-2 hrs. You wouldn't be able to even finish watching a movie.

PTV = Increase in Weight = Reduced Capacity = Less Revenue = Not SQ style

As you guys may have noticed, the new aircraft has a (12J/138Y) configuration, 6 more whY seats than the old aircrafts. Although I'm not sure how did they manage to squeeze in an additional row, my guess would be in reduced seat pitch.
We put labels on people and fight wars over them. If we truly want harmony, we have to get past the labels.

Well, the old ones had 4 rows of 4 for 16J........... so I think there's your answer.

I think that's the first type of configuration. There's a second one which can be found here.

Those new seats look very nice. I do like flying MI, but sadly don't get to do so very often.

What do you guys think of SilkAir Business Class? Is it worth it for, say, a roughly 2-hour flight SIN-SOC (Solo City, Indonesia)?

I would be paying cash money for the tickets, not mileage. This would be with Mr. Megatop, if traveling by yourself or with someone makes a difference to your opinion.

As a point of reference, IMO, it is worth it to pay for SQ J on the 2-hour SIN-BKK runs, or CX for BKK-HKG, especially SQ. But SIN-BKK are on a nice big 777 with PTVs and full SQ service. I've only flown SilkAir once, though I have read some MI J Trip Reports. My impression is that service is nice, but it is more or less like domestic First Class in the U.S., except for the Asian service aspect.

Little hint: MI girls (there are no boys) - will give their big sisters at the golden goose a run for their money any day. Equally good.

There are not only two version of the older A320s, there are two versions of the A319s as well.

So, right now, MI have 5 different seat maps for a 15-strong fleet.

True, but AFAIK they also fly to Shenzhen and Kunming which are both 4+ hours away. Oh well...

They do have the option for flights of 3 hours and more to rent a DIGI player(complimentary in business class):
                      http://www.silkair.com/mbe/en_UK/con...94!-1064799733

I think this option works well for them and is good enough as most of Silk Air's flights are in the 1 - 2 hour range as mentioned earlier.
I did a few flights with them to HKT and CNX, all without IFE but all were very enjoyable.

They also now fly to KTM, which the last crew I flew with told me they dread getting as it's the longest and all MI flights are turnarounds.

Yup. 11:10 from leaving SIN to arriving back, then add on duty time before departure and after arrival and it is a long day.

At least it is in daylight rather than overnight.
                          ..

There is overhead televisions to watch on Silkair, so you are not completely without entertainment

yes silkair does flies to destinations above 3 hrs to 4 hrs like shenzhen, kunming, xiamen etc - and its prices are not cheap; so without PTVs is not a good thing for EY pax - as before it tookover SQ's Shenzhen flight - SQ was flying its 772s there with all the inflight amenities n now silkair have taken over - the price is the same but now its a smaller plane and no inflight entertainment.

Anyone can vote on Skytrax, even Singapore Air recognise that & said that it's a pretty meaningless award at this years polls after receiving the top prize. Being ranked 5th in the world by a dedicated magazine with readers who have subscribed because of an interest in travel & leisure means far more.
