  • New Cabin Interior For SilkAir

SilkAir customers will soon travel in greater sophistication and warmth with the arrival of the airline's newest Airbus A320 aircraft.

Introducing SilkAir's new cabin design featuring a fresh autumn colour scheme that soothes and welcomes upon sight. This "warm" charm is set to progressively replace the classic "cool" look of the rest of SilkAir's fleet.

Enjoy the aircraft's new ergonomic seats designed to fit your body shape most comfortably. These seats are fitted with flexible headrests to enhance our customers' travel experience. Business class patrons have the extra privilege of luxuriating in stylish leather-upholstered seats. The airline's latest fleet addition also offers more spacious overhead compartments for smooth and easy storage of your hand luggage.

"With its new look and a close attention to detail, this aircraft was designed with every intention to meet - and surpass - our customers' expectations of top quality and premium service," said Mr Chin Yau Seng, Chief Executive of SilkAir.

The airline has earned a reputation in the region as an outstanding full-service premium carrier. SilkAir recently ranked fifth amongst the top ten international airlines in Travel + Leisure magazine's World's Best Awards.

Climbing four spots from ninth ranking last year, this is the airline's fourth consecutive year on the list and it is once again the only regional carrier among the top ten international airlines. Rankings are measured from an average of readers' ratings in five areas: cabin comfort, food, in-flight service, customer service and value to customers.

"It is a tremendous honour for a regional airline like ourselves to be once again distinguished as a premier service, and placed amongst the world's best long-haul carriers," said Mr Chin.

"The introduction of our new cabin design is a timely affirmation of our resolve to continue strengthening SilkAir's world-class service and value to our passengers."

Jointly developed by Airbus and SilkAir, the new cabin design reinforces the airline's new brand campaign themed "Journeys to Treasure". Launched in July, the campaign will highlight the airline's world-class service through a series of print, radio and outdoor advertising initiatives.

The Airbus A320 brings SilkAir's fleet to a total of 15, and is the first of 12 aircraft on firm order to arrive.

I haven't tried any of Silkair's products yet simply because I haven't had much interest in those exotic regional locations they fly to. Now I'd love to visit Langkawi though

They still don't have PTV on the seats?
        Life's A Bitch,
        Love It

If GOD created me for only 1 reason. That reason would be to the love of my wife. If there was any other reasons involved, that would be for the love of Singapore Airlines

Surprisingly, the news wasn't even published on the Silkair's website.
We put labels on people and fight wars over them. If we truly want harmony, we have to get past the labels.

Just saw this piece of news in business news as well. Being ranked 5th in the world is no easy feat. SilkAir has really done a good job. Sadly I've only flown on MH a couple of times as it only flies to regional destinations

Being ranked 5th in the world by "Travel + Leisure magazine's World's Best Awards" is no doubt as prestigious (or not to those who know ) as being ranked Xth by Skytrax.

SilkAir is MI. Malaysia Airlines is MH.

Those seat covers look rather NZ'ish.

It's not clear to me if the older cabins and/or aircraft are being retired?

Or are we going to have a mix between old and new cabins, resulting in a TG-like cabin lottery system?

I understand it will be gradual introduction over five years.

Today's SIN Business Times reports that there are plans to retrofit the existing planes by end of next year.

Great. I take MI on a regular basis. Tired of the present biz class seats.

Looks more luxurious than the old seats, which were cloth if I remember.

My bad. It's a mistake caused by typing too quickly in a tired state of mind. It's no doubt that magazine isn't as prestigious as Skytrax, but a regional airline getting ranked 5th among international airlines is commendable, regardless if it's Skytrax or not.

Yeah, they are cloth. Would rather have PTVs than new seats.

Any chance of getting this new seats on my next MI flight next week?
