The demand isn't as high as for places like Zurich, LHR and CDG so they can't justify a 388, whilst CDG has competition from AF and LHR big competition from BA and QF.
Off the topic a bit although it's not direct booking the overnight 388 to Zurich with SQ then the connecting flight to London City looks like a very good option which you can book on Swiss Air website as City is much better location and 10x nicer than LHR

FCO is, in some ways, a backwater airport. It doesn't have great connections to cities outside of continental Europe, so I guess I can be happy that an airline the quality of SQ offers a direct flight.
Just arrived back in FCO from SIN. This time had 9V-SVO. Passenger load was pretty light and had a row to myself. Again, flight attendants seem to really go out of their way to attend to economy passengers.
