Good one, especially since I flubbed the clue and typed 'Delhi' instead of 'New Delhi'.

The restaurants mentioned in the article were:
    • Wakiya, Gramercy Park Hotel, New York
    • Hakkasan, London
    • Taipan, The Oberoi, New Delhi
    • Yung Kee, Hong Kong
    • LAN Club, Beijing
    • Whampoa Club, Shanghai

Yung Kee in Hong Kong is the famous roast goose restaurant which has been mentioned several times before on SQT, e.g. here. I've tried it and whilst the goose is good, it's the best Chinese restaurant in Hong Kong ? No way!

I will pass San Francisco next month before London. But certainly I will have no patience waiting in line...

There was an article in the Weekend section of the WSJ-Asia a couple of weekends ago, and it had the top restaurants in Asia (according to the newspaper's opinion).

If anyone is interested, I can have another look later today or tomorrow (I have digital subscription) and post here the names of the recommended restaurants.

My opinion (solely my own) - in no particular order:

                1. Yat Wo Tai Chow - USJ taipan
                2. New Greenland Tai Chow - Petaling Jaya
                3. Soo Kee Tai Chow - Kuala Lumpur
                4. Meng Chuan (Soo Kee chye) Tai Chow - Kuala Lumpur
                5. Opposite Yat Wo Tai chow - yet another tai chow - USJ taipan
                6. Next to the one opposite Yat Wo Tai Chow - USJ taipan.

Full meals for under 2 USD a head. Burp.

                    Literally translated = Big Fry.

What it is is a coffeeshop with many small stalls centered around a main stall - the tai chow itself. You get your Hokkien Fried noodles/Cantonese Fried noodles/ Fried rice from the Tai Chow stall - and other "accessories" - typically *** Ton noodles/Porridge/Satay/Fish Noodles from the other stalls. Some even have western stalls - fancy a steak for 1.50 GBP?

Sounds yummy and so cheap! I've never heard of nor come across anything like this in Singapore, HK or other parts of China, e.g. the hawker centres/food courts/kopitiams in Singapore which consist of (as far as I know) independent food stalls (with one or two drink stalls) rather than what you describe above with one main stall and ancillary stalls. Is a Tai Chow unique to Malaysia ?

(PS - USJ Taipan sounded at first like the name of a US naval warship until I did a Google. )

A think a 'crock of ***' would be a better description !!!. 99% of these best or top 10 of anything are absolute nonsense. The travel/airline industry in particular seems to particularly excel at these....

Did the writer say how long it took them to check out every Chinese restaurant in the world in order to come up with the best ones ?.
