Oh my bad, but we have time and space for rational policy making beside attending to the national whining after all.

    Thks for that clarification

Skytrain, of some description. Maybe even an extension of the 'failed system'.

            A few things mentioned:

            1. Project Jewel, an extension of Terminal 1 with shops and an indoor garden (beautiful) at the current open air carpark
            2. Terminal 5, confirmed to be between 02C and 02R, will be Changi's biggest terminal
            3. 4th runway next to 02R, with the new Changi Airbase East. Paya Lebar Airbase will be moved over to free up space at Paya Lebar

              Project Jewel

... To be designed by Moshe Safdie, no less! It promises to be exciting. Wonder if they will redo the control tower as well ... maybe that's already too "Changi" to be changed.

                Project Jewel

"A key feature of Project Jewel will be a large-scale, lush indoor garden with a breathtaking central waterfall. Seamlessly connected to Terminals 1, 2 and 3, Project Jewel will offer aviation and travel facilities, unique attractions and exciting retail offerings all under one roof – just a few steps away from Changi Airport’s departure gates"

To be ready by 2018 and will be operated by CapitaMalls Asia and Changi Airport Group

Actually it is quite a good idea. Since land to the east of Changi is reserved for future airport development anyway. And at least planes do not fly over the CBD (unlike Heathrow and Haneda)

actually, there are already more than 4 runways right now - wink wink

                          • its good for Changi but seems a lot of planning works to be done and passenger and baggage transfers from the new T5 to T2, T3 and T1 will take longer time given the distance between the new T5 and the rest. But putting a new air force base (from Paya Lebar) and its military runway parallel to the "new" 02R - may not seem to be a good idea - as that would mean affecting and delaying passenger aircraft movements during air force exercises and when the air force needs to "scramble" its fighters at any given time - and by the time the air force base is built in the next 20 years, Changi would have increased its aircrafts movements and that would have a greater impact when the air force interferes with the civilian air traffic.
Wonder also if they built another Control Tower as with 2 other runways and T5 a distance away, the current tower will unlikely to see completely.

I am afraid that's what happens when you increase distances, it takes longer to get there. Not much you can do about that when an airport goes from two runways to four and three terminals to five.

Do you really think the RSAF will be carrying out air force exercises next to a four runway five terminal airport that has up to 100 million pax a year transiting through it ?. Most of their major exercises are not even done in or around Singapore.

                              • What i meant is not that the air force will be doing exercises around the airport - but that the air force planes will be taking off and landing during exercises or training from the airport - if you do go down to Ubi or Ponggol now where Paya Lebar airport is nearby, one would see and hear fighters and transport planes be buzzing through daily and at odd times at night when night training is done. One can often see F15s coming in to land and taking off and lumbering C130s flying even in loop around the airport.
hence when the air base is relocated to Changi after 2030, one would expect airforce planes doing the same - and as the runways are all running parallel to each other, and not all aircrafts can use the 4 runways simultanously at the same time for take-off and landings - hence flights will be disrupted somewhat with the air base just next to Changi.
