![]() 116. SQ A380 Y to New Delhi: Butter Chicken & The Art of the Seat Swap
I wrote this TR in mid-May 2020. Now, as it was then, the Covid-19 pandemic is still far from over. SIA's Whalejets are still grounded, along with much of the rest of the fleet, although tentative steps are being taken to restart flying, albeit with quite a different inflight experience. Will there ever be a time when travel demand picks up enough for SQ to reinstate A380 services to India? Turning back the clock to late October 2019, I made a business trip to the Indian business and IT hub of Gurgaon, not far from the nation's capital, New Delhi. I flew there and back on SQ's A380 in Economy. As it turned out, I've not flown on the A380 since that time. ![]() Will this A380 experience be my last ever? When things return to some sort of normalcy, I can see A380's on routes like SIN-SYD, SIN-LHR or SIN-NRT, but I doubt many other routes would be able to fill such a large aircraft. Just in case I never again set foot onboard an A380, one of my favourite aircraft types, here is a TR documenting the pre Covid-19 travel experience on SQ A380 Y. ![]() While I had assigned seats on both flights, on my return DEL-SIN flight, while the boarding process was underway, I saw the opportunity to swap to a better seat. Sounds simple doesn't it...get up from seat A and move to seat B...but there are many factors at play here. In this TR I offer an opinion on the art of the seat swap... ![]() On these flights, I also took the opportunity to sample that Indian culinary classic: butter chicken, an item which appeared on the menu of both the outbound SIN-DEL and inbound DEL-SIN sectors. ![]() Was there a difference between the Singapore catered dish and the ex-India version? Read on to find out! Last edited by yflyer; 22nd June 2020 at 03:40 PM.. |

![]() And that wraps up my summary of the 116 Trip Reports I've posted to date. I hope these have provided some relief from the boredom of lockdown, and perhaps even inspire you to post TR's of your own! Thank you for reading them, and for all the comments and suggestions.
It's now June 2020. In Singapore, Phase 2 of Circuit Breaker (CB) restrictions have been lifted since 19 June, which means those of us in Singapore can now dine at restaurants, shop in stores, go to the beach, and meet in groups of up to 5 people. It is amazing how much joy simple pleasures and freedoms like these can bring. In some countries, the situation is still very worrying, while others, like New Zealand, are well on the road to recovery. I hope we will be able to resume some sort of normal life some time soon, and also resume travel, so that we can reconnect with our friends, business associates, and loved ones all over the world. I look forward to the day when we can once again indulge in our shared passion for air travel. I wish SQTalkers, whichever country you are in right now, all the very best, as we go through this challenging period. Stay safe and healthy, everyone! |

![]() Hi, really appreciate the time you have taken to do this post.
Just one question, on many of your TR, you have mentioned that you use your own headphones in Y rather than the inflight one, may i know which model you use? |

On planes, I currently use Shure SE215 earbuds with the wired option, and a generic airline headphone adapter. There are better sounding Shure models, but the SE215 works well enough. Off the plane, my favourite earbud headphones are now Apple's Airpod Pro's. They sound extremely good and can be used for running and exercise too. The noise cancellation mode is eerily silent, and there is also a "transparency" mode so that you can hear outdoor traffic. |
