Hmm, good for you but honestly what is wrong with having your luggage tag (whether Silver, Gold, QPP, TPP, other *A FFP, etc.) on your bags? The airline gives it to you and I find it convenient as I don't have to stick some funny looking regularly purchased luggage tag on it. I use the ones given to me by the airline and that's it.

Of course it does not need to look like a Xmas tree and I still see people who have those old light blue SQ Raffles and pinkish SQ First Class tags (with the little elastic band) on their luggage which is just plain sad as those were discontinued years ago.
I used to place my EG tag on my baggage but it don't seem to last. Came off after checking in once / twice. Now I use a little cute little tag that wrote (That's my bag!). Coupled with the fact that my bag's colour is striking red (very odd for a big sized male like myself) makes recognizing the bag very easy... And very cute!
    Life's A Bitch,
    Love It

If GOD created me for only 1 reason. That reason would be to the love of my wife. If there was any other reasons involved, that would be for the love of Singapore Airlines

All my tags are by Fluff - including my hello kitty kebayas.

Can't be arsed with the Gold this and Gold that tag..!

Can you elaborate what you mean by showing "the card to get your drink/snack"? Did you mean your elite status card? If so, I don't get it. On American airlines, you either pay or use a drink voucher for free alcoholic drinks in Y (except on certain international flights). Snacks are free or for purchase, and elite cards will not entitle to free snacks.

e.g. BD used to give you free food and drink on domestics if you show an elite card but no longer:

          http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/flig...y-q-and-a.aspx

Gold and Silver and Blue Plus Diamond Club cardholders who travel in any booking class lower than ‘Y' class will no longer benefit from a free sandwich and drink and a paid-for menu will be offered.

Going OT here but the reason why I don't put KF/BA/etc blue tags on my checked luggage is the fact that they're easily torn off by baggage handlers.

I now use a metal luggage tag with my details embossed (I just manage to fit on my name, BA FFP number, e-mail address and mobile number) and a metal chain. Even then, it disappears after a while so I try to carry a couple of tags+chains if I'm going on a trip with many flights. I can't remember exactly but I bulk ordered a pack of tags+chains (about 20 or so) from I think this company.

With my hand luggage, I don't have anything at all on my bags but I've read posts on other boards saying that if you display a coloured status tag, there have been occasions when airline staff have combed the queues waiting to (e.g.) board the plane and pulled out those with status.

That's what I'm saying I use the ones SQ gave me just tucked out the way as they are flimsy and snap off easily.

                      1) this is nothing new as similar online stories have been seen and easily searchable.

                      2) it further demonstrate the complex nature of mixing east and west culture and communication techniques.

                      Let me give an example.

On American airlines, you sometimes have to show the card to get your drink/snack. And everyone is ok about it and in fact, its sometimes treated as a rule. You show the card on SQ and you are judged as being rude.
It all depend how do you show you card and at the correct monment when it is needed ! ie, for this case - to get your drink/snack

There are parts of the world where people have no sense of morality or common courtesy. I work at the Four Seasons Hotel (I guess we are the Singapore airlines of hotels) and have encountered people from all walks of the world. IMO- Hense, this is from my experience and im not racist, people from Mainland china are beyond the rudest people in the world. Ive met some Singaporeans whom are PPS, due to the little card on their luggage, and majority of the time they are well spoken and polite, maybe because their in America?

Your observation is correct. I know number of Singaporean that has long assignment in USA - especially those outside big city. For some reason, their attitude changed. The environment make the different.
