There is always a carbon footprint and it would be higher than flying, plus no tax to of set it.

I'm quite pissed off of what I'm seeing at SQ's site. My family and I are planning another India trip this June, however SFO-India, it doesn't matter which Indian destination. Tried ALL, price given per passenger:

Checked this month on the 17th, saw 1,972 per person, now checked 2,079 per person. At this rate, I would pretty much go with Cathay or British Airways. Yes, oil prices are up, but it hasn't affected Cathay or BA that much. I guess flying SQ in the winter is better, because you get lower prices even if you're flying the 77W as well as the oil prices in the market.
