Hat-tip to the man he's replacing, J.Y. Pillay, SIA Chairman when it was, unequivocally, A Great Way to Fly.
There can only be one JY Pillay who helped (with others) made it SQ what it was. In those days folks worked their ways up the ranks in SQ and we don't hear of management concepts like KPIs. Just sensible approaches.
Heard he even took a flight as if he was a normal EY Passenger to test out the service.
Are you implying Chinese/Singaporean are clones and/or sheep?
Oh dear me, touchy touchy! I wonder why? No, not at all, just SinGov "promotions". Mostly ex-military "Retirement" positions like CCS? Not great for a modern business CEO position. As demonstrated? My wife is Singaporean Chinese and I am concened that if I show her your post I will be in big trouble!!

I thought your Mrs is Indonesian from previous posts.
QUOTE: My Indonesian wife has only one name and we never had a problem with the "Duran Duran" option for online bookings or check in with any carrier. Sometimes checking in CGK, and more particularly in the US, there is a need to explain that there is only one DURAN, and not two when comparing reservation and Passport (or was that Durian?) but passport ID has always been OK, especially because Visas are required for Indonesians nationals for anywhere outside ASEAN.
UNQUOTE.
Perhaps you need to be honest with your Singaporean spouse. Having two is a big headache in my opinion. Yes, it is better not to show the post to your Singaporean Chinese wife and try to resolve it amicably.
I also thought you have swore off SQ and yet you have taken flights in the suite class and continue to fly SQ despite all the chest thumpings and being preachy of the merits of other airlines. All SQ has to see are your bookings and will not take you very seriously. If you want to demonstrate the effects where it hurts, do it on the bottom line. Reminded me of preachers who mentioned about the evils of sex outside of marriages but the same rules do not apply upon themselves.
If you want to be serious about it and taken seriously about it, walk the talk.

He was one of the first people I met at SQ back in the early 90s. He took us out to lunch after a few of us got a scholarship sponsored by SQ. Very nice guy.

Actually,I owe you no explanations but, since you ask, my wife became Indonesian after her Father moved to indonesia to make money and changed name and Nationality. My wife, therefore, also had to give up Singaporean Nationality because Indonesia does not allow dual Nationality and, under the Suharto /G30S (Communist supression years and post GKB inquisition) 1965-1967 post-Sukarno years in which millins of Indonesians, suspected of being Communist sympathisers, were shot, it was esential for non-indigenous folks to blend in and most also adopted Indonesian names for the same reason(s) Not that that's any of your business. In fact, as you are so smart, you will, of course, know all of this and much much more already? This was a very painful period in Indoensia for non-indigenous families and your comments raise painful memories for my wife's family. There were more problems i 1987/88 when Suhato finally fell. So,frankly, FCUK. Frankly, I'm actually happier here in Indonesia but I'm sure that you believe The Lion City is far superior?
My position with regard to flying SQ is that I will never fly them ever again, for raesons fully expalined already, unless I HAVE NO CHOICE. A few weeks back I had a family emergency in Europe and had to leave at a day's notice. And, of course, SQ Suites is the only thing available at short notice at this time of year, or any notice at all actually.
So, I wonder actually what are you trying to say? That nobody else is entitled to any opinions in this forum and that your opinions are the only ones that count? And that you have some sort of right to quastion everything that anyoen posts here?

Reason: Offensive language

Fully agreed. He was a Gentleman and a man with a vision for what SQ was to become and then destroyed.
So, excuse me, but perhaps I might also get back to my original point, before Lion City (?) diversions, which was why can't SQ appoint an airline guy with a marketing/business oreintation to run SQ rahther tha anotherr Singapore Government insider?

Outgoing
Chew joined SIA in 1972. He held senior assignments in Tokyo, Rome, Sydney, Los Angeles and London, and headed the Planning and Marketing divisions at the airline's corporate headquarters. Before becoming CEO in June 2003, he was Senior Executive Vice-President for Administration, covering finance, treasury, corporate planning, human resources, legal and corporate affairs.
He served as the Chairman of the Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise. He is also a director of SIA subsidiaries Singapore Airport Terminal Services Limited, SIA Engineering Company, and Virgin Atlantic Airways, in which SIA holds a 49 per cent equity stake.
After completing his first degree in mechanical engineering from the then University of Singapore, Chew graduated with a Master's degree in operations research and management studies from the Imperial College, University of London.
Incoming
Mr Goh, age 47, joined SIA in 1990, after graduation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as well as three Bachelor degrees, in Computer Science and Engineering, Management Science and Cognitive Science.
He has served in senior management positions in Singapore as well as overseas, and is currently Executive Vice President for Marketing and the Regions, having been appointed to the post earlier this year after four years as President of Singapore Airlines Cargo. He is also presently Chairman of SilkAir.
I'm sure that you believe Lion City is far superior?
I certainly do.
And that you have some sort of right to quastion everything that anyoen posts here?

Just a quastion.
Oh dear, maybe you should refrain from pulling other people up over grammar eh philipat. Or at least stay off the sauce before replying, maybe try posting earlier in the day.

I noticed the present tense being used "My wife is Singaporean Chinese" now that she has stopped being a Singaporean for the past 40 years. Surprisingly for someone who spends the time correcting the English of others.
Considering it was 40 years ago and surprising she was so connected with Singapore and must be very young at that time.
Not sure how she got a dual Citizen as far as I know Singapore does not allow dual citizenship. This is first of heard. What I knew about that period which you mentioned was that many Indonesian Chinese were heading towards Hong Kong, Singapore and China to get out of Indonesia. My grandfather personally helped many who came to Singapore.
Haven't heard of a Chinese Indonesian having a single name. This is the first I heard of. Thanks for the update. Particularly for a Singaporean Chinese who strongly valued their surnames.
Somehow your explanations seems to be more tedious and long winded with subsequent statement.
Surprising that you mentioned you will never fly SQ and yet 9V-SIA shown us a link that shown otherwise and you have not even satisfactory indicated otherwise but rather you denied that you were philipat.
It is unfair of you to label the new CEO Mr. Goh as a clone and Dolly when you don't even know him as if you know better and even before Mr. Goh has a chance to prove himself in the eyes of the customers. For example you mentioned about ex-Military but Megatop pointed out in his post that Goh does not have a military background perhaps other than national service that all Singaporean men undergo at the age of 18. This is what the English labeled as "it is not cricket".
You have mentioned that you were not philipat on two occasions and yet everything proved you and philipat are the same person that way including the following:
1. Your location given as Indonesia and Bali.
2. East of Sun and West of the Moon (or something liked that)
3. Giving titles on every post.
4. Never want to fly SQ again.
5. When 9V-SIA and I addressed something to Philipat, you for no reasons reacted to that post in the most emotional fashion to show you are the same.
Yes, you have lied before and we all know philipat was banned from this forum. For whatever reasons, when it is time for you to move on and do something useful in your life then to tell us time and time again how bad SQ is, how you missed out on your LPPS (sometimes I read it is 50 sector points and other times I read it was 100 sector points), giving sarcasms to our humble posts, trying to be clever in telling others what to do, giving degrading expressions etc. You always mentioned about openness of forum but should that be extended to folks who at best are misleading and hiding behind a veneer of openness?
So please do not try to prove your superiority over us humble Asian, English, Europeans or others my lordship.
