  • Bought a copy in T2 airside at the Times Newslink store, they had ton of stock and still listed as #1 best seller on their shelf. I took a picture and will post it once I get back home mid-next week.

PS - started reading it on my SIN-BKK J flight yesterday and BKK-SIN J flight this afternoon and received a comments (all good) from the lead plus chief inflight attendants and the supervisor as well.I thought that was kinda cool....couple of them actually know her.

    cheers.

I guessed she was well liked by her former colleagues.

      • I got hold of the book last week and have read about 10 chapters. While its been a good read so far, I'm a bit disappointed to be honest.

There's nothing really very new, maybe I've heard too many first-hand stories over the years. I felt the style of writing is a little staccato as well - probably the wrong way to describe it, which is why I'm not a book reviewer or a writer, but several times there was no continuity between paragraphs within the same chapter and it seemed like some of the stories stopped too abruptly.

ps: I have no flights this month.
I'll pick one up for you tomorrow night when I go back to SIN. With pleasure.

          • I've only skimmed and dipped in the book (thanks, KeithMEL! ) but it seems that's the best way to read it.

The stories remind me a bit of how I perceive Singapore and its airline. Whilst there are some stories of extra-marital affairs and such like, it still all reads quite prim and proper (all this talk of temples!). Quite unlike the book I mentioned above written by two BA crew which is very Ah Lian and full of sordid graphic detail, e.g. the Fist of Fury pumps away in my mind!

As for the lack of continuity, I can imagine that it's difficult if not impossible to string together in a logical manner what are at the end of the day a collection of anecdotes broadly organised into chapters.

It's interesting to note from one of the recent Singapore newspaper articles that the book's author's father is a well published Singapore poet and writer:

thank you Kyo, I notice that like Lion City, you are often forthcoming with the requests of your forum friends...

My girlfriend was going to pick it up for me but after an 18 hour flight from NYC, she was too dazed to even know which airport she was back in, let alone remember my magazine.

No hurry there, I'm just curious to know what the write up is about.

This is interesting! I'll show the link to Mr. Chew. They approached him early this year, expressing an interest to set up a site for the local Chinese writers but I don't suppose he's aware of this. Thanks!

No problem, I have your copy now sitting at home and also an extra one for me... I still can't decide which format I prefer... I kind of like the title of the older one.

Maybe it will grow on me over time..

Do let me know how I can pass you the magazine via PM

                    • It would be quite interesting to see the other side of the story ... a.k.a. a memoir of a regular Asian airlines passenger.

                        An interesting idea.

I am sure each of us have a some stories to tell from the other side. Is anyone or a group of us willing to collect the stories and we can all publish it jointly? I doubt we will make much money but it is for interest sake. Imagine a title "The Milehi Club....the other side and Memoirs of a 1st rated Asian airline passenger!"

that's such a cool idea ! there's stories galore from the passengers' end and i'm sure the members here would be very supportive. It can be marketed overseas coz this theme will appeal to every traveler ( and non).

                              • Both TheBook as well as SiblingofTheBook have completed their journeys and have been formally handed over to their respective owners.

                                Tada...

Sorry forgot to take a pic of the other handover.
