The route was SIN-VIE-AMS-YYZ in the mid 90's. Route was withdrawn after about 6 months after Air Canada complained to the Canadian Govt that SQ was picking up passengers from european markets ie VIE and AMS which could have flown on AC instead (which was ironic as AC didn't fly from those cities).
The Canadian Govt yielded to AC and restricted 5th Freedom traffic rights from Europe to YYZ. And thus it was pointless for SQ to fly from SIN and not be allowed to pick up and drop off passengers between Europe & Toronto.
So it cancelled the much touted first transatlantic crossing.
6 months later, SQ started SIN-FRA-JFK to a much bigger fanfare. And the YYZ route was soon forgotten. Except to its cabin crew who dreaded going to YYZ in the middle of the Canadian winter!
