Are all SIA pilots only local Singaporeans/Malaysians or are they a diverse international group? Do they for instance have pilots from Australia, Canada, Great Britain, South Africa, etc to name a few? These years traveling with SQ, I don't think I have ever seen a Caucasian pilot before with them. Can someone verify?

SQ have quite a few western pilots from the following countries, Australia, Canada and England. As one other SQtalker mentioned most of the expats are captains because they have been in the airline for years, now days SQ dont recruit F/O because they have a very successful cadetship program with a requirement that you must be a Singaporean or Malaysian citizen. Inital ground school is done in Singapore, then the cadets are sent to Perth, Australia where they are based at Jandakot Airport, one of the busiest airports in the southern hemisphere. The Cadets do their commercial licence in Perth then are sent to the Sunshine Coast where they do their final training in a small jet, I think its a Citation or Learjet. From there they are sent back to Singapore to complete line training in the Simulators then are sent to work for either SQ, SQ Cargo or Silkair. Once in a while SQ advertise for direct recruitment Captains, I have noticed many of the Tiger Airways pilots based in Singapore are either Australian or South African.
Hope this helps

well, I flew to SIN ex-MAN on the 25th - Indian captain.
Return ex-SIN on the 7th October - American/Canadian - can't differentiate the accents.
Limited use as a sample, but as long as they're qualified to fly, I'm not that interested in the crews origins. If God had really intended men to fly, he'd make it easier to get to the airport.

But one thing sure about some of the local Captains, or what you call the other co-pilot.... some of them do sure have bad sounding English... I always cringed when I hear Singlis accent being spoken by the Captain when making his announcements... ok, not always, but you do hear it sometimes.....

On a flight from SIN-AKL, I saw the captain board the plane. He was definately a westerner. When he made the onboard announcements he had a very charming Aussie/Kiwi accent, can't tell which of the two it was but definately one of those two. Until today I still have troubles differentiating between Aussie & Kiwi accent.
