Not exactly. Each new seat weighs much less than a SpaceBed. Also, 20 passengers plus luggage weigh less than 30 passengers plus luggage. Altogether, that would be between 3 and 4 tonnes less weight. So, if the 20 new seats bring in anywhere near the revenue of the 30 old seats, then cargo revenue is profit.

      Hmmm, ok

I meant passenger revenue, didn't actually take into account that the equation is pax rev + cgo rev = tot revenue...

But if it means giving up mileage redemption at Saver fares, I am not at all for it.

The regional C seats offer far more legroom than the SpaceBed, only downside being the difficulty getting out with the person in front of you reclined.

This makes sense. Take for example 9W's launch of full-flat business class seats on SIN-BOM and SIN-DEL on their A330s. SQ has been forced to deploy 77Ws to stay competitive.

Seems logical that refitting some newer regional 772s and 773s with the new seats would allow the 77Ws to be re-deployed on longer-haul routes where they are equally needed.

well another perspective would be that as the A330s arrive, SQ can afford to take 772s out of service for a prolonged period of time, something they couldn't really do for a long time.

there honestly isn't any better time to standardise the cabin products across the fleet.

The 19 A330-300s will be replacing 13 777-200ERs and 5 777-300s that will be leaving the fleet over the next few years.

yes the A330s are primarily then so bec of the delay in A350 and now some delays for the 787s - and some 772s will start leaving the fleet soon after the A330s arrive - as the 1st 772 will now be in its 9th year n coming to 10 yrs old. However SQ's 773s likely stay on for some time to come as they are fairly still new below 10 yrs.

9V-SQA joined the fleet in 1997. 9V-SYA joined the fleet in 1998. SQ did not receive any 777s in 2000. They received 13 777-200ERs and 5 777-300s before 2000. Those are the non-AVOD aircraft. Those are the aircraft that will be replaced by the A330-300s.

It sure would be nice for this to happen on the MAN-SIN route in time for my trip at the back end of September......

But, as the tone of this thread is clear, it's just wishful thinking.......
                    Still, a C-class Spacebed configured 772 isn't exactly a hardship compared to slumming 13 hours in Y..........
If God had really intended men to fly, he'd make it easier to get to the airport.

There is zero chance that refitting 777s could happen that soon. September is when the A340-500 refit will be complete.

I was just reading the first post and hoping/praying/deluding myself that any announcement would be immediately followed by full roll-out.......

Course, SQ could give me a spanner and I could start straight away.......

let's hope not... as much as i love the new business class, there will be even fewer options for saver awards.

The conversion might take a year.

Do you expect the restrictions on saver awards will continue after the SpaceBeds are all gone?

i really don't know. i certainly would like not to think so, but with the recent miserly ways of SQ, i think it is likely. they have to maintain exclusivity, remember?

I guess we'll have to wait and see. It will obviously depend in large part on when SQ overcome their capacity shortage. I'm hoping that SQ announce at Farnborough the exercise of their 13 777-300ER options.
