The JumboJets aren't even old and tired. By global standards, they're midway through life. By SQ standards, they are old. The airframes are fine, but it would make no sense to spend loads of money updating the interiors just a year or two before SQ will turn them over to the new owners.
The whining is becoming more and more annoying. I still enjoy flying with the SpaceBeds, though admittedly not as much as with the new long-haul Business Class. Now that I have an iPad, I don't even care about AVOD vs non-AVOD anymore. The service is still great regardless.

The sliding table and straight sleeping position is so convenient and comfortable for the neck.
I will miss the 744 dearly ... so fortunate that had an unexpected chance of flying them in F due to the A380 saga.

Flew on two MEGATOPs last month, operating SQ 11/12. My third time (at least, since I started keeping score) on 9V-SMU and my first (I think) on 9V-SPE. Speaking strictly of the seats, I'm not sure whether I like the SkySuite more than new F on B777-300ER; I'm certainly perfectly comfortable in the SkySuite, no complaints about seat comfort. The interiors felt slightly dated by SQ standards, but that's not an aircraft issue as much as an interiors issue (KE's 744's with updated interiors don't feel particularly dated). The IFE screens were a little fuzzy and the SkyShow not as good as on newer equipment; the carpets were a little stained too. But other than that, no issues.
I've only got two more trips on MEGATOPs coming up. Gonna miss them.

I flew with SQ for the first time on 15th Nov, connecting from KUL to MEL. First leg was 9V-SRI. To MEL was B744 9V-SMU. I was over the moon when I saw 9V-SMU...hahas!! the crews was amazingly awesome and the flight wasn't full. Took lots of pic. My fever relapsed while in the flight..missed my tub of ice cream..=.=
Coming back yesterday, thanks to A380 fiasco, SQ decided to swapped my flight to B744...don't know I should be happy or otherwise. But a blessing in disguise maybe. Got 9V-SPJ. 9V-SPN was also at MEL airport. All seats max-ed out. Apparently, I called up the SQ call centre no booking for Melbourne morning flight can be altered till 17th Dec.
The chicken pie was nice...catering was all right. Both B744s are awesome although the interior was a bit dated but still all right. Only problem...the KrisWorld system were hard to read and the PTV can't be moved to suit your eye level.
Double doses of B744...Overall, an amazing experience with SQ....never better..
SQ...A great way to fly...Last edited by jul247; 3 December 2010, 12:40 PM.
