The only other reference I find for that flight is in this thread started by UMD a while back, but there didn't seem to be a definitive comment. Rejuvenated recommended the nasi lemak in this thread, but (paging Rejuvenated) would you have preferred to use the breakfast BTC option instead of BTC'ing the other meal? Of course then some other condiments get added in as well to the topping.

Thoughts from SQTalkers who have tried the nasi lemak?
          jjpb3,

Got your PM! Sorry I've been out of the boards the last couple of weeks and I was busy with meetings in Seoul when you submitted this.

Anyways I've only tried the Nasi Lemak once and that was in F. Not sure if there are differences between the ones in F vs the ones in Raffles.

To me the Nasi Lemak is the equivelant of Nasi Uduk in Indonesia where I've eaten it in warung stations served by "abang abang". Its basically Coconut milk (santen) added to the liquid mix of the rice cooker for steamed rice, hence that extra flavour and fragrance one will experience.

From a personal stand point, I enjoy the dish and the quality level is certainly not at the low level like the price I can get at warung.

Sorry, but I need to correct a misconception here. Nasi Lemak is a complete dish, and not just the rice, eventhough the name itself refers to the coconut fragrance rice.

True malaysian nasi lemak must be judged as a combination of the coconut fragrance rice, the chili sambal (whether with sotong or prawns), the ikan bilis, and the curry chicken. The addition of otah otah, omelette or tumeric fried fish are Singapore innovations. Each item must carry its own weight in contributing to the dish. If one is off, the whole dish is off. No buts, no in-between.

              On-board menu

In some occasions, nasi lemak will be served at SKL as well as one of the main course in on-board menu ex-SIN.
In my recent flight SQ951 from CGK with departing time at 0620 early morning, nasi lemak was one of the choices. And the meals are catered from CGK. Thus a bit different than the usual nasi lemak you have seen. Here are the pictures:

A bit OT: I just had nasi lemak for the first time at this hawker place in KUL. Apart from being a bit spicy (I ordered a fair bit of soya bean milk on the side ), nasi lemak was rather nice. Now i know why so many people rave about it.
All opinions shared are my own, and are not necessarily those of my employer or any other organisation of which I'm affiliated to.

FYI, SIN SKL F this morning (19/07/07) had Nasi Lemak on the menu. Looks like it will last for several more days.

If you go to Medan in Indonesia, there is also nasi lemak being sold all days (especially for breakfast) at the marketplace. The only difference of nasi lemak in Medan is the beef rendang instead of chicken curry offered. Cucumber, sambal, eggs, and fried ikan bilis (or ikan teri as they call it in Indonesia) are the signatures of nasi lemak.

Nasi Uduk is different from Nasi lemak as the former (although still a coconut milk based rice) is almost always eaten with sambal and Javanese style fried chicken + basil leaves only.

You're not from Medan, are you? Oh, that's news to me. I love Rendang...When is SQ going to serve Rendang?

I was speaking to a CSS about the uptake on BTC and on most flights, she estimates maybe at the very best 10%. I am surprised. Would have thought more regular pax would have ordered unless they have got through the entire selection and wanted soemthing new.

In one or two of my flights this year, I remembered there was a menu choice for rendang. Most probably it SIN-CGK or SIN-DPS routes. But of course it's not as spicy as rendang padang (West Sumatra), it was more to malaysian rendang.

Just to follow up on my question with bits of data:

                            1. I BTC'd (or rather, my guardian angel arranged for me to BTC) the C class barramundi out of SYD. My vote: A BIG NO. The texture was mushy and the flavors indistinct. I could only take two mouthfuls before I conceded defeat and asked the cabin crew for a replacement from the menu.

                            2. The F nasi lemak out of SIN was very good. Same elements as in CGK's picture except that it's served out of two dishes (the chickpeas and dried fish are in a smaller plate), with the sauces served in separate small dishes as well. It was a good farewell to Asia (and seemed preferable to the options on the menu). All things considered, though, I prefer the nasi biryani as the breakfast BTC option.

(Sorry, I did snap pictures of the dishes for SQTalk, but I left my camera aboard TG916. )

Your guardian angel BTC for you. Lazy or what? I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your camera. Have they (TG) managed to trace it or can you assumed that it is gone forever? Yikes, those photos will be missed.

Thanks for the update on Barramundi ex SYD. Will avoid.

Agree too with the nasi Biryani. Did it come with the various condiments (acar) the last time you had it?

I noticed there have been inconsistencies with the way some dishes are served. For instance, you do get a wide serving style with Chicken rice. Once, I had fried shallots garnishing on top of chicken but in the remaining 7-8 times, it was missing. Then you have either the chicken with the rice or chicken on a side plate. No big deal really but maybe I observe too much.
