  • Nasi lemak as Business Class BTC option: recommended?

I think I can BTC the nasi lemak for breakfast on my SQ220 flight in August, or I can use the BTC option for the other meal instead. Has anyone tried the nasi lemak? Is it worth using up my BTC option for it, the way, say, the nasi biryani is?

The only other reference I find for that flight is in this thread started by UMD a while back, but there didn't seem to be a definitive comment. Rejuvenated recommended the nasi lemak in this thread, but (paging Rejuvenated) would you have preferred to use the breakfast BTC option instead of BTC'ing the other meal?

Thoughts from SQTalkers who have tried the nasi lemak?

I had the nasi lemak (the one with sambal, fried peanuts etc which all came in little containers ?) for breakfast on a CGK flight - spicy and something to wake up the tastebuds! I liked it but then again, I'm not fussy.

Perhaps the answer is to stack up the nasi lemak (assuming it's OK) against the BTC options for the other meal and see which you'd rather have ?

I thought it was not possible to BTC breakfast out of SYD. What I am always doing on SQ 220 is to go ahead and enjoy one of those savory B'fast dishes that SQ serves and BTC my lunch.

AFAIK, UMD is correct, i.e. no BTC for breakfast for SQ220, and it's available for lunch only. So, no nasi lemak for you, jjpb3.

          2. BCKRM - CHICKEN RICE

Ha, that solved my dilemma, didn't it? UMD, CGK, thanks for pointing out my erroneous assumption. I need a stronger blushing embarrassment smiley.

And SQfg, you're on. Thank you for rescuing my desire to have my first taste of nasi lemak.

You still can order BTC though. If you are really hungry that morning, you can have your BTC for your breakfast. I like baramundi or beef. I believe the crew loves them as well.

Thank you, sir, for the inside info: barramundi it will be for my main meal. I think I'll follow UMD's lead and sample the savoury breakfast on offer.

The comment about nasi lemak from a CC is that is a fusion of style ..ie neither full Malay nor full Chinese style....a campur (mix). Oh, how I miss a good nasi lemak.

For me, ordering nasi lemak from BTC is a waste. Forget about ordering it from BTC, not worth the money. If I were you, just take what's onboard for breakfast. Nasi lemak is a real cheap dish and eating that onboard is wasted. The best nasi lemak in Singapore is at Adam Road hawker centre. Its popular with MediaCorp (Singapore's TV station) staff and artistes and the Sultan of (either Brunei or Johor or both) gets their takeaways from there. There are more things inside than what SQ serves on BTC. If you want somewhere near airport, go to Changi Village Hawker Centre, they also have good nasi lemak, the stall with long queues. If any of you are in Singapore, try going there and buy your takeaway.

I wonder whether I'm out of point.

Not at all - thank you! In fact, there's a thread for just this sort of recommendation:

I've been to that one, with the lurker mr. I - and yes, it was good, but i still do think the ones in Malaysia are better. Just different levels of "goodness"

I've been there too but IMHO, it's OK.

Tell me where are the good nasi lemak stalls in Malaysia? JB doesn't have that good ones unless you have the simple one. FYI, Peranakan (Nonya) nasi lemak is different. Instead of what we always see, its coconut flavoured rice with a couple of dishes. The usual stuff, curry chicken, fried kangkong (water convolvulus), sotong etc.

Try Adam Road, its better. The Sultan of Brunei and Johor had takeaways from here, so you should know how good it is. Then you can say it ties with Malaysia's standards.
