Incident: Singapore A359 at Singapore on Jun 18th 2016, hydraulic failure

A Singapore Airlines Airbus A350-900, registration 9V-SMC performing flight SQ-323 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Singapore (Singapore), was descending towards Singapore, when the crew requested a tow to be ready for landing advising they would not be able to vacate the runway. The aircraft landed on Singapore's runway 20C, braked firmly and came to a stop about 2100 meters down the runway, but was unable to vacate the runway. The aircraft was towed to the apron about 20 minutes later. In the meantime all landing traffic was using runway 20R.

A passenger reported the captain announced after the aircraft came to a stop that they had suffered a hydraulic failure, were unable to vacate the runway and needed to be towed off the runway. The flaps remained extended, a number of spoilers also remained extended while others retracted. After arriving at the stand maintenance engineers were working on the right hand engine (Trent XWB), it appeared there may have been an oil leak.

And it remains grounded it would seem...

HKG SQ890/1 have lost the A359 since the incident and are getting whatever 777 is available to fill in.

Almost 5 days now and SMC is still grounded.

Still grounded. It's just over 72 hours before the first flight to JNB is scheduled to commence.

Will 9V-SMD be delivered in time for the flights to JNB? It seems like it is going to be delivered really soon.

SMD's TAC is scheduled today. Delivery flight is usually a day or so afterwards, so... maybe.

How bad is the hydraulic issue to have warranted a downtime of seven days (through to June 25th, 2016) as my SQ119 flight just got downgraded to a B772. Was looking forward to the A350-900 experience. That will not happen tomorrow, just like the entire week

No TAC as scheduled though 9V-SMD has been moved to the Delivery Centre. She should be delivered next week but after the A350 JNB flight commencement date. Not sure how they will manage it with 9V-SMC still down.

It is quite bad. One of the hydraulic line located on the right side of the wing had a leak due to the one of the brackets had sheared off. This due to manufacture fault. The best part is that Airbus does not have spares for this particular line and bracket so SQ have to wait for the parts fresh from the factory. But good news is that parts have finally arrived and the engineers and technicians from SIAEC are working hard to restore the aircraft for service.

In that case, how will SQ manage JNB flights, along with daily AMS flights, with only 2 operational A350s?

According to the KUL Agent who checked me in, SIN-KUL vv flights with the A359 will go live again from June 28th, 2016. So, I suppose the issues with Mike-Charlie will get fixed by then; and hopefully Mike-Delta will be delivered. That way, AMS; JNB; HKG; CGK; KUL all get served. Not forgetting there's also the DUS inaugural on July 21st, 2016, which SQ will have to ensure there's no hiccups to SQ338.

SMC is now back in service to CGK. That means JNB inaugural will go ahead as planned. 9V-SMD is expected to be delivered by 30 June.
