    SQ to launch non-stop A350 flights SIN-SFO

Singapore Airlines will this week announce non-stop flights between Singapore and San Francisco.

The new direct route will see the airline's factory-fresh Airbus A350 jet pressed into service on a flight estimated to take some 16 hours, although there's currently no start date for the inaugural non-stop service.

SIA to launch non-stop flights between S'pore and San Francisco, 2nd daily Los Angeles service

SINGAPORE — Starting Oct 23 this year, Singapore Airlines (SIA) will have daily flights between Singapore to San Francisco, the national carrier announced on Thursday (June 16).

The flights will be on SIA's latest A350-900 planes and will be the longest flights in SIA’s network until 2018 — when a new variant of the A350-900 will enter service, enabling even longer flights between Singapore and both Los Angeles and New York.

SIA says the flights will be "conveniently timed" to depart Singapore in the morning and arrive in San Francisco also in the morning to enable onward connections to other destinations. Return flights from San Francisco will also depart in the morning, arriving in Singapore in the early evening.

The A350-900 is able to operate non-stop San Francisco flights on a year-round basis, although there may be some payload restrictions due to headwinds, which will result in some seats not being offered for sale, said the airline.

SIA added that there will be 253 seats in Business Class, Premium Economy Class and Economy Class on the Singapore-San Francisco flight.

Currently, SIA serves the Singapore-San Francisco route twice-daily, with one flight operating via Hong Kong and the other via Seoul. In its statement on Thursday, SIA said it would be adding a second daily service to Los Angeles, to complement existing flights that operate on a Singapore-Tokyo Narita-Los Angeles routing. This route comes as the current Singapore-Seoul-San Francisco flight will be re-routed to operate as a Singapore-Seoul-Los Angeles service, also from Oct 23.

“Our customers have been asking us to offer more US services and we are pleased to be able to do so," said SIA's Senior Vice President, Marketing Planning, Ms Lee Wen Fen. "With new non-stop San Francisco flights and the increase in frequency to Los Angeles, customers will have two flights to choose from each day to both of these popular US West Coast destinations."

The new Singapore-San Francisco flights mark SIA's first non-stop service to the US since late 2013, when the national carrier retired its Airbus A340-500 fleet, which had only 100 business-class seats.

"Nonstop operations are critical for us," said Mr James Boyd, a spokesman for SIA in New York, to Bloomberg. "They are a staple for corporate travel that we've served for many years."

United Airlines was the first to launch a non-stop flight between Singapore and San Francisco on June 1 this year. That service is on a Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner aircraft.

In its statement on Thursday, SIA also said that it will be suspending services to Sao Paulo, Brazil, from Oct 21, "as a result of the sustained weak performance of the route". SIA currently operates three weekly flights to Sao Paulo via Barcelona. Services between Singapore and Barcelona will continue to run.

      Some additional details:
      - Both LAX flights will be served by 1 row F 77W (no more A380 to LAX )
      - Routings for LAX flights: SIN-NRT-LAX-ICN-SIN and SIN-ICN-LAX-NRT-SIN

So this means LAX will get double daily 77WR with Premium Economy, and therefore, SFO will get the A359 nonstop, but will still have the 77WN unchanged via HKG?

So either one of the 2 LAX flights will be routed via ICN & NRT on the outbound or inbound depending on flight? Interesting one.

The A359 to SFO is not entirely unexpected, while they applied for partnership /codeshare approval with UA they just can't stand being outdone by UA on this.

Regarding LAX, score one for frequency vs capacity debate.

It would hopefully mean the end of 3am arrivals into SIN

So is SFO the third nonstop destination to US? Or was this forced by UA's nonstop SFO-SIN, in which case fourth non stop can be expected?!

Impact on South America and Spain ops

Slight off-topic but just wondering what this would mean for BCN and whether SQ would chose to continue to exercise their freedom rights in BCN that they currently use for GRU to open up any alternative South American destination, say EZE. With Iberia not doing Long haul out of BCN this could be an opportunity for them.

In any case, I hope this turns into a less messy schedule for BCN, possibly decoupling from MXP and bringing both to a more standardised daily service.

The lack of a star alliance player in Spain could be a challenge to fill these flights onwards from BCN as they were once filled in by Spanair.

                Interesting times!

I think fourth non stop can be expected. SIA ordered for 7 ULRs, so it should be able to serve 3 US destinations. Since SFO is now served by the normal A350, SIA should be announcing a new destination in the US (my best bet is Houston).

it's sq8 and sq7. not sure which one, but i checked the one to incheon. my mind was correct at guessing this. it was impossible that sq give the number 4/3 (4 is unlucky), while its association 6/5 is bad (TPE accident)

SQ32 direct to SFO, SQ8 via ICN, and the dreaded 3am arrival of SQ11 is still on.

SQ11 will be re-timed to arrive in SIN between 9pm - 10pm as it will now leave LAX at 10am in the morning. This will be operated by the aircraft ex-SQ8 from SIN/ICN.

SQ7 is the other flight from LAX (via ICN) that will arrive early in the morning just before 6am.

I am guessing they just haven't pushed all changes out yet.

                          B777-300ER
                          SQ 8 SIN/ICN 0225/0950
                          SQ 8 ICN/LAX 1120/0640

                          SQ 7 LAX/ICN 1715/2230
                          SQ 7 ICN/SIN 0035/0555 +2

                          SQ 12 SIN/NRT 0925/1730
                          SQ 12 NRT/LAX 1915/1325

                          SQ 11 LAX/NRT 1000/1330
                          SQ 11 NRT/SIN 1445/2100 +1

                          Direct A350
                          SQ 32 SIN/SFO 0830/0915
                          SQ 31 SFO/SIN 1045/1840 +1

So is it correct to say the aircrafts will go this routing :
                          SQ 8 (SIN-ICN-LAX), return as SQ 11 (LAX-NRT-SIN)
                          SQ 12 (SIN-NRT-LAX), return as SQ 7 (LAX-ICN-SIN)

Let's see how they will organise schedules, I think that they will change operational days in Barcelona, and retime flights especially the Sunday flight (now operating as SQ377).
