  • SQ231 delalyed for 9 hours (unusual)

Just checking www.flightradar24.com and SQ231 is flying behind SQ211 to SYD.

9V-SKG is serving SQ231, it is unusual to have such long delay.

    Singapore (SIN) To Sydney (SYD)
Schedules show the local time at each airport.

    Flight Scheduled Estimated Actual
    FLIGHT SQ 231Delayed
Depart: Singapore (SIN) - Terminal T3
    00:45 - 04 Jul (Sat)
    09:45 - 04 Jul (Sat)
    09:56 - 04 Jul (Sat)
Arrive: Sydney (SYD) - Terminal 1
    10:25 - 04 Jul (Sat)
    19:25 - 04 Jul (Sat)
    -

Anyone has any idea what happened to her?

It seems quite a number of the A380 flights have been delayed the last few days. ZRH, CDG flights.

i checked www.changiairport.com departure, only those three flights had major delays, all 380s, 9V- SKG, 9V-SKH and 9V-SKS. NDP practice is less probable.

Noticed the significant delay to 306. Interesting all delays were with A380 a/c. We had a potential issue with 308 the other day, we were due to have one of the newer birds (with all J class upstairs), however, a late a/c switch left the flight being serviced by 9V-SKK. This meant some J customers no longer had a seat. Business and suites were full, so upgrades weren't possible.

Some ended up being offered F class on the later flight to LHR. Thankfully we were only delayed by around 25 mins, but would have been a tricky situation for SIA, and the knock on effect will have been felt, I'm sure.

9 hour delay? No good at all.

Apparently, there was a go around at LHR yesterday (July 3rd, 2015) - anyone knows what happened that caused this SQ flight to ditch and go for a second try to land?

What happens when SQ has a long delay, like 7 hours or 9 hours? Where do the pax wait?

I remember a week or two ago SQ221 also delayed by almost 11 - 12 hours and departed at 7am in the morning instead. (Maybe we can check from previous flight records?) That service was operated by 9V-SKD.

I think for the passengers, it depends on when the delay was declared. If it was declared early, then Singapore passengers might just need to come back again the next morning, whilst because it happened on Saturday, I believe SQ251 can be a good alternative. For transit passengers I remember SQ will provide hotel for them.

To conclude, SQ is not TZ, so we won't see the same pictures as TZ8 for the delayed SQ231 I am sure.

SQ222 was delayed by 6 hours on the 4th July. SQ said it was due to a "technical issue"
                      Fly well,
                      Travel safe,
                      And have a pleasant journey.

this is due to late arrival of 9V-SKG serving SQ231 prior.

My money on the reason for a go around would be the aircraft in front not vacating the runway in time. Tends to happen quite regular at LHR, done it twice myself.

                          It didn't 'ditch', thankfully...

I think the answer is that the A380 fleet is currently stretched to it's maximum operating capacity. SQ222/231 and SQ227/8 were upgauged to A380s for the Australia - European summer holiday traffic.

SQ231 and SQ346 are the last two A380 flights out of SIN for the evening, so if anything goes wrong and the fleet is stretched, those flights get to wait it out until the next A380 arrives back into SIN. I sometimes observe SQ346 delayed by 3 hours and I think it may be that it has to wait until SQ11 pulls in from LAX and they can prep it ready to take off again.

I suspect the reconfiguration of B777-300ER to include Premium Economy and A380 installing Premium Economy also means there must be 1 - 2 aircrafts now out of action for this exercise.

But I would also expect there should be some spare A330 and B777-200 that SQ can use it on SQ231 with no problems?
