I was gonna ask after this tranche of A359’s are done, because of the 777X delay can’t SQ also open up some options to the A35K for the time being, leasing or otherwise? Before they got regional A350 and 787, they leased A333’s.

I know they are replacing many certain (not all) 77W routes with A359’s but maybe a consideration for the 5th freedom routes.

Buying A35K as an interim measure will be an expensive purchase when it will only be used for few years before retiring them. The A330-300 didn't last long when they used it to replaced most of the B777-200ER routes. Moreover, the first tranche of A330-300s were part of Airbus compensation for A380 delay. Airbus would have offered them a good discount for the second batch follow up order for end-of-line airframes.

At this point of time, Airbus has no incentive to offer the same for A350 since they are all booked. If SQ places an order now, the earliest slots will be late 2027/2028, maybe Boeing will start delivering B777X by then. I am being positive and hopeful here. LOLx.

Yeah I can understand now. It’s not just Boeing and Airbus but in general I read it can be due to supply chain issues in both and the backlogs are a lot. Read a couple of articles which cited that it’d take years for interim to be delivered.

However with IAH/MAN being axed and freed up, I wonder if they can really allocate the A350’s even on the existing fifth freedom routes. One caveat is no First class but Economy Class will be a slight capacity downgrade but it’s not significant (i.e. The frames leading up to SMU can do the 5th freedom routes).

This information is good to know about the past thanks
