StarG is our resident maximum luggage specialist, he needs to offer his sage advice here. What he ships around on SQ flights is truly eye watering.

I totally agree. SQ are pretty good to PPS/FCL/JCL pax. However, you are flying out of an Australian Airport and I do not know what their problem is but they all seem to have a Jobsworth Dept of hand luggage Nazi's who stand there grabbing people they seem to think shouldn't be taking their luggage on the aircraft with them. I don't know any other country in the world that does this.

So true. They tend to be more lenient especially up front.

Twice as Gold in whY, my travelling partner and I brought 4 bags 90kg as checked bags. Excluding cabin bags.

Once in J, my brother brought >45kg in checked bags after some persuasion. I can't recall how many kilos he brought!

When flying back from LHR, my travelling partner and I brought 7 bags, a mix of big and small suitcases, 70+kg. The agent didn't even blink. She said "don't worry about it".

Apart from the weight of the check-in luggage, where it does seem SQ check-in agents have a lot of flexibility, I think carrying on the 27" Mac as hand luggage is a different matter. The Mac is really quite large (even without any box) and heavy as well.

Googling the Apple website, the 27" iMac (latest version -- earlier versions were even larger) has dimensions:

        Height: 51.6 cm (20.3 inches)
        Width: 65.0 cm (25.6 inches)
Stand depth: 20.3 cm (8 inches)
        Weight: 9.54 kg (21 pounds)

This appears to exceed by some margin what is allowable in the cabin, even without considering any box or case.

Not sure how much flexibility you would get with carry-ons, compared to weight of check-in luggage, but I suspect there is less flexibility there. I would at least plan for the possibility of it being rejected as a carry-on.

good news, i heard that SQ will increase baggage allowance for all customers across all classes by 10kg, come 9 December 2013

About time, considering other airlines have all gone ahead doing so

I guess they can afford it now that all the hardware is composite. Alas, I won't benefit from this change, my mantra for travel is to go as light as possible.

                It's called Toll Dnata

Only a handful of staff that are employed by SQ at SYD...

Will pick up my nice at SYD to fly back to SUB. She's going home for good, so the luggage will be a lot, really a lot.
We will be 2 in R and 1 in Y on SQ222 and connect with SQ930 in J.
                  Questions:
                  1. Need to carry a 27" Mac desktop to the cabin. Is that possible?
                  2. How lenient is SQ on F pax luggage allowance. Theoretically, our allowance is 40+40+20. How far can I push the limit?
                  Thanks guys for any input...
Dent@SUB - when are you flying back?

Why would you not ship it, or freight it? If it was a holiday I could understand your attempt to get it on board, but if it's relocation or repatriation why not just send it via sea or air? 110kg is a lot for cabin regardless of class.

A Star Gold on Lufthansa would get 32kg x 4 = 128kg. Same for a OW*E on BA J or F. So not completely beyond the realms of reasonableness.

I wouldn't know the exact answer since I almost always travel within the allowed limit , I have a feeling you should be OK, Dent@SUB.
