The rear end of an A340's fuselage curves in far earlier than a B777 making for some very uncomfortable seating arrangements back in Y- odd shaped gaps in a lot of places, uneven legroom, aisles go from narrow pinches to wide empty spaces. The A340 also seems to have a lot less stability at it's rear end than a 777 in turbulence.

The main A340 product I've experienced is the LH 343. I'd certainly hope SQ would fit a better product than LH but I don't know how they would manage layout as the SQ A340s with a standard Y product all left the fleet in 2003 just before I began flying SQ. If someone has an old seating chart to link to I'd be interested to see it.

It's just my opinion, but I prefer how Boeing design the rear of a plane in terms of passenger comfort than Airbus does. All my most comfortable flights have been in 777s.

What's the difference between the A340 fuselage and that of the A330-300?

The A340-500 and the A330-300 fuselages are roughly the same shape. In fact, the A340-500 fuselage was based on a lengthened version of the A330-300 fuselage. However, I think there is less space at the back for passengers as the A340-500 features larger horizontal stabilizers than the A330-300
