  • SQ Loads

Yesterday arrived from Barcelona and the flight was only about 45% load factor in EY, and not sure of load in J or F. Similiarly two months back from CAN to SIN the load was just 11 seats taken in J whilst a quick walk around to EY shows about 50% full.
And read about the SQ 330 flight to Dhaka but diverted to BKK due cargo hold fire and that flight only have 106 pax which is like only 40% load for a A330. Maybe we can share SQ load factors based on our flights. Although its good for passengers on a half load or less especially in EY where one can have all the 3 seats to sleep on - but for SQ its not and meant for a loss making flight.

Just booked a flight to Osaka in Aug. Prices for flights (same dates and around similar timings) as follows:

    SQ - S$1348 all-in
    MH (via KL) - S$547 all-in

    Guess which airline I booked

That explains the load factors I think...

That is plausible - and now MAS have very good fares to Europe and Asia from now till end Aug. Am tempted to book SIN-HKG return in end May and MH is selling it at $362nett! and its on their newly launched A380 flights to HKG! And from Sin to LHR is the lowest I ever come across at $1,172 and to Paris is $1,003 - imagine that and its all on their A380.
But even without this MH promotion, does seems that SQ passenger loads are slipping downwards.

My wife and son came back from HKG last Friday evening and theirs also in Y was around the 50% load. This was after me just booking a redemption ticket for them the weekend before, just 4hrs before departure on SQ2 and on a Saver Award.

I was on SQ 634 and Y was also about 40% full. But the return flight SQ 633 was about 95% full in Y.

LOL.. this is a true logic math.. to TPE By BR or GA $950 in J
and SQ $800 in EY, thats the reason I pay J on other carrier as my budget was EY on SQ

Last trip to CGK-SIN-CGK SQ 951/960 both leg.. F always 2/3 pax , J 90% EY 75% and I always furious at SIN SQ C/I counter as they always unable to unblock seat 31- 33 which actually so many ' kosong '

I've experience severl DQ flights with low loads in the last twelve months.

Most notably, SQ308 (taken this flight 5 times in the last twelve months) and I'd say never been more than 75% full in Y. I took the flight in F just before Christmas last year and I was the only passenger in that class. Last week, Y was only at about 60%.

SQ321 is usually a very full flight, but suits my timing out of London. However, last week there were many emtpy seats and probably only 50%, and this was on bank holiday monday.

SQ227 to MEL another flight usually extremely busy, not last Tuesday however when severl (myself included) had a whole row to lay down in Y.

I certainly believe price is a major factor, especially now that 'cheaper' airlines have improved their customer service and ordered new aircraft - the two things, which had allowed SQ to price higher.

SQ227 to MEL was relatively full in Y, probably 90% and 70% in J on late apr sunday, while SQ 228 was around 70% loads for Y and 40% in J earlier this Monday. Not sure about suites though.

I had dinner and drinks with a fellow SQTalker in London last night and his inbound SQ318 had one other pax in Suites with him.

Was on SQ61 last weekend from IAH. On the IAH-DME leg, J was 88% full, and Y was 95%. From DME-SIN, J & Y were full. Didn't look at F but looking at the people ahead of me when we disembarked at SIN, I would assume it was pretty full at least for the second leg.

Getting hard to justify personal travel on SQ regionally in econ. It's getting way more expensive to Korea and Japan, and Australia. I've got tons of points but the cost of a fully flexible ticket (for the unknown chance of upgrading) is now quite high compared to Asiana or ANA for Star A, and then you have Emirates to Oz at less than 1K prices.

Anyway, I am sure they have planned for swinging loyalty at econ level.
