Very interesting question indeed. Let me try and take a stab at this.
Firstly the route to Rome; assuming the plane is flying the great circle route, it will be heading in the general direction of 311.7deg from Singapore (another assumption). And assuming you are on SQ 366, it's ETA is 0735. At this time of the year, sunrise at that latitude is at approximately 0500GMT, which is approximately 0600 Italian standard time, at 2deg south (if I'm reading the charts properly).
Therefore my estimate (assuming it's correct!) will place you around Greece at sunrise, with the sun rising on the left but almost to the aft of the plane.
Good luck to your sunrise! Hopefully the port wing will not block it.
ok, since u have done the numbers, I will not repeat....

hi , i'm sorry. but at august 26, i also fly with SQ , but at SIN-AMS , so, if i want to watch sunrise, i must seat at the left side or right side ?
at before, you say that i must seat at right side, but the thread starter will fly at october, but i will fly SIN-AMS at 26 August , so should i seat at right side or left side to see sunrise ? thank you.
hi , i'm sorry. but at august 26, i also fly with SQ SIN-FCO , so, if i want to watch sunrise, i must seat at the left side or right side ?

The sun will always rise in the east - NO matter what time of the year it is. In winter, it will be later, in summer, sooner.
If you want to watch the sunrise, you won't see much because it's on your back anyway. No real difference, slight advantage sitting on the right.
Sunrises/Sunsets & Flight Path & Where to sit
It is indeed very nice to watch the sun rise especially at 35K ft where the sky is clear and the colours are the most varying and spectacular.
To help those who are interested in catching that moment in time, let me direct you to two websites that may help you decide which side of the plane to sit in.
1) The Great Circle. This site will help you visualise the path of the plane. All you need to do is to enter the origin and destination airports at the bottom box. It will calculate the path of the great circle which is the shortest distance between two points on the globe. Of course it is a very simplistic representation as most flights will probably take a route based on established air ways (am sure one of the many pilots here can expound on that topic). But by and large, it will follow that approximate path. (Caveat: the only flight I know of that doesn't quite follow this at times is SIN-EWR-SIN).
2) Sunrise/Sunsets. Next you need to know the time of the sunrise/sunset and the latitude the sun will rise at. While the sun generally rises in the east, we know that because of the tilt of the earth, the sun will rise between the Tropic of Cancer to the Tropic of Capricorn (+/- 26deg26mins latitude). All you need to do is enter the location, and the time of the year you want to know times and the angles of sunrise and sunset. I've previously used this website (now there are wonderful apps in the iPhone) for my photography to gauge the time and point of the sunset and sunrise. (There are also other apps that help with moon rise and moon sets as well as the lunar phase if you are into that kind of thing for photography ... and fishing).
From these two websites you can roughly gauge for yourself the best seat.
Now, my only wish, for airplane manufacturers is for them to build planes with larger windows so that I can view the night sky better!
