  • Turkish A359: New Electronic Dimmed Windows!

Fellow SQTalker 9V-SIA recently flew to IST on a Turkish Airbus A350-900.

This was a brand new plane, registration TC-LHH, in special livery.

He reported back that this aircraft had electronically dimmed windows, similar to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner!

The controls are located at the bottom of the window panel itself, which have a touch sensitive section.

This was not the case when I flew TK's A359 last year (TR here), so it looks like only the very newest A359's have this. I did some Googling and found this Youtube video which shared more on this new feature.

As far as the cabin product is concerned, the TK J product on the A359 is similar to SQ's medium haul J seat.

9V-SIA's feedback was that while this seat was similar to SQ's regional J seat, he found that there were some features that he liked, that the SQ seat did not have, such as the headphone hook.

The aircraft was also fitted with personal air vents, which are absent on all SQ aircraft in the fleet right now (Someone in SQ apparently does not like personal air vents.)

All pics posted with 9V-SIA's permission. Thanks for sharing, 9V-SIA!

I'm quite sure the SQ ones have the headphone hooks also, but the air vents are indeed a nice option to have. The dimmable windows make "closing" those hard to reach windows much easier.

Thanks for pointing this out dfs24! You are absolutely right about the headphone hooks. I looked back at an old trip report on the SQ 787-10 regional J seat and yes, it has the same headphone hook.

Fair point about some of the windows in SQ's J cabin being hard to reach. My perception is that SQ's corporate philosophy does not place much priority on views, whether in the lounge or in the cabin.

In the past, both lounges and cabin products have been designed with what appears to be complete disregard for windows and views. At least for lounges, some of the new lounges appear to have better views.

I hope the new SQ cabin products being launched will have more consideration for what pax look out of the window, which I consider a form of inflight entertainment. You can see amazing things out of plane windows.
