Hi CarbonMan, there is a local restaurant "Osteria del Porcellino" which we visit every time in Florence .. it is a rather small restaurant at Via Val di Lamona ... good food amid a very relaxed atmosphere ... yet affordable .. nothing fancy family type place ... give it a try

For outlet shopping, the Mall is very good. We also went to the Space, which is a dedicated Prada + Miu Miu outlet ... as well as D&G outlet nearby the Mall ... but there are some distance between these places, you may want to rent a car or book a driver ...
