After many months of negotiation and compromise, clothes rending and visa applications, my family decided that we should NOT go to India for our Winter holiday. It was a fateful decision as we then had to find another idyllic spot to vacay. It was about 3am for me in the UK, and I gave up and asked "Why not Bali", although I knew the answer would probably be "we've been there so many times already" or "again?!". I don't know... even with the hordes of tourists, and over commericialisation, Bali still remains an beautiful place to me, and it's very exciting whenever I land there, to re-enter a place where relaxation is an occupation and enjoyment the only necessity.
So it was at 3am in the morning and sometime at the end of the work day in Singapore, barely 2 days ago that we decided that we must be in Bali between the 28th and 30th of December.
The question of hotel then came up. Everything up high on the list at Tripadvisor had been booked up, and I was left with the 4 Seasons Sayan (in Ubud) or the St. Regis. I had been to the 4 Seasons but not stayed there, it was beautiful and the setting enchanted. However, I could not help but be drawn to the St. Regis, the price was a bit higher (though lets be honest, on this end of the hotelling scale, the prices are "if you have to ask, sir, you can't afford it"), but it was newer and was by the beach! I convinced my Mom, who is an ardent fan of the 4 Seasons, but countered her by saying: BUT THE ST. REGIS IS NEW!, and in a flash we were booked.
Now all that is left is trying to figure out what to/or not to do in Bali. I humbly ask the SQtalkers out there to offer any suggestions (I am definitely planning on stumbling into Ubud), and in return I will do a nice trip report with a prodigious amount of photos.
Really excited for this trip and really looking forward to tell you all about it!
