Haven't noticed that on the A330-300. I'll listen more closely when I get the chance.

The only noise that I noticed (because it was actually painful to my ears), was the whine permeating the cabin on GE-powered MD-11s between engine startup and climbout.

Maybe the highflyer should get his personal apu installed at home. He could use it instead of a wakeup call

You could also read 'All four engines have failed'. A cracking book.

BA009 sounded like a fun flight..

Ha.. Now I know what's happening everytime just after pushback, but before the aircraft starts the taxiing. During that half a minute or so, I hear some funny funny noises and feel something going on under my feet. Strangely, fumes from the outside flows into the cabin simultaneously. It's not a pleasant experience but I've gotten used to it. What is happening at this stage?

I knew someone who work for an aircraft engineer in SIN, when the engine turns on, he can tell whether is a Pratt & Whitney, General Electric, or even Rolls Royce.....Just like when I was spotting the aircraft, those spotters around me when they push the shutters, some photographers can even tell which brand, Cannon or Nikon...

I can roughtly distinguish also whether this it is an American made(PW,GE) or a British made(RR) engine when it is under the take off full thrust.

Yes, it is very easy for finding out the 2 differences. Typically and commonly, the American engines has a higer pitch and a more powerful sound pressure, just like you listen to the symphonies with a German Sennheiser headphone, where the RR has a lower pitch and quieter, it just like the animals roaring, not so powerful(except the Trent series) as the Yankee's.

Spend one day near the airport runway to obseve the aircrafts take off and listen to the engine sounds in a very prudent way, I'm sure you can distinguish different engines' model also, it's very easy, each one is unique!!

Sure you can- it is similar to the method you can use to distinguish different car engines.

Having spent the last 5 years working in an office building directly under the flightpath into runway 02L in SIN, I can almost always tell which aircraft is taking off, landing

I have spent the last 4 years living in a flat directly under the flight path of the jets departing from Paya Lebar Airbase, but I still can't appreciate the aircraft and flights that fly above me. If anything, I would like to move out of here. No interest in military aircraft at all.

Cool vid! You could see a mini-tornado appear under the engine when the PIA T7 gave full thrust!

Oh my god! I love this video!!! It really makes me feel as if I'm standing at Gate E2, looking straight at 02C/20C!!! Can I move to MAN, so that I won't have to constantly look out for the police?!

PS: I love the mist that forms when the B772ER's engines go full speed!

One should listen to the 77W GE90 engines esp on start-up - its very loud even inside the cabin.
