Also, one-way fares on SQ from SIN are so much more expensive than from nearby cities. Eg I can get SGN-SIN-JFK in Economy for almost half the price of SIN-JFK!

Yeah, and the ones not ex-SIN tend to be fully mileage-accruing also. Did the ex-BKK to JFK one earlier this year. Far better value and an instant *G on A3...
