I wasn't thinking of you regarding openings fella, I know about your love (obsession ? ) of Seminyak, and W's.

I was thinking of other people who frequent other forums, have a look at the 4P thread on FT, and watch the StR one go the same way.

      Obsession? Moi? Naaaaaaaaah.

I've not paid much attention to FT in a while. I can't say that I've noticed this behaviour when I used to frequent the SPG forum over there. Very amusing trend!

StR ? I stayed at the StR SIN during (IIRC) its first week of opening and the StR OSA on its first day. Both times I happened to be there on holiday rather than booking a trip to go there and I was by myself. They were both "interesting" but not so wonderful experiences (to say the least)!

The W London is different. I planned a trip there just so that I could stay on its opening night last year before it got postponed. I ended up getting a wodge of points and a free night anytime this year (I haven't rebooked for next month though).

Nice one Keith, it coincides with ours as well and wasn't showing on the main page of rates.

Starwood has expanded its portfolio of W hotels worldwide with the opening of the W Retreat & Spa Bali – Seminyak, its third Retreat to open within the past 12 months.

The newest W Retreat, W Bali is located in the trendy enclave of Seminyak where designer boutiques, diverse galleries, lively restaurants, and modern cocktail bars and clubs call home.

Showcasing distinctive architecture by SCDA Architects and interior design by AB Concept and Poole Associates Private Limited, W Retreat & Spa Bali - Seminyak reflects the rich natural beauty and cultural heritage of the destination, with a playful twist of bold designs and textures, inspired by the “conceal and reveal” mysticism of Bali.

Guests arriving at W Bali are welcomed in the signature W Lounge (W’s take on the traditional hotel lobby), captured by vibrant tropical pinks and purples, oversized day beds facing the coastal breeze, and sturdy synthetic rattan that further blurs the line between inside and out.

At Welcome, the sea breeze whips past monsoon screens and whistles through a wall of hand-blown glass jars, each holding a piece of capiz shell that allows the wall to “sing”. The sleek resin contours of the W Lounge with its eye-catching, back-lit bar glowing in electric LED hues, meld with lampshades woven from synthetic rattan resemble pagoda roofs in Bali.

All 158 retreats and suites feature modern amenities such as complimentary wireless internet, BOSE in-room entertainment system with MP3-player docking station and Bliss Spa bathroom necessities. The retreats are some of the largest on the Island with the majority offering views of the Indian Ocean. Seventy-nine villa retreats, including one-bedroom villas, two-bedroom villas, and three-bedroom villas are also available, each with private entrance and pool.

W Bali features an assortment of signature restaurants and lounges. Guests can sip cocktails or relax over afternoon tea at W Lounge or eat, drink and play in WooBar, a three-story bar on the beach. Guests can also enjoy Fire, an urban, casual grill restaurant featuring a dramatic open kitchen, or W’s seaside beach club, Starfish Bloo, headed by Chef de Cuisine Jack Yoss who presents his interpretation of Pan Asian cuisine through Western techniques.

The W Bali also boasts a Wet pool deck, Sweat state-of-the-art fitness center, and W’s signature Away Spa. The Away Spa is open 24-hours a day, seven days a week, offering guests and locals signature treatments around-the-clock, including massages, facial and body treatments, and manicures and pedicures. The spa even features a “Blue Room”, a pure oxygen filled lounge where guests can set their mood before treatments begin.

To celebrate its opening the resort is offering a Premiere to Bali promotion which includes: complimentary breakfast at Fire restaurant, US$150 in-retreat credit (food only), free upgrade to the next retreat category (upon availability) and a surprise W gift.

The Premiere to Bali package is available until 30 June 2011 and starts at US$388++ per night for a garden view retreat, US$538++ per night for an ocean facing retreat and US$788++ per night for a one-bedroom villa retreat.

The package is subject to availability and excludes a 21% service charge and tax. Terms and conditions apply.

Keys to the sexiest hotel rooms in the city will be available from July 2015

Global hospitality giant Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has made it official: the company will bring the W brand of hotels to India by 2015 with a 350-room property in Mumbai.
Still not convinced about visiting India though...

                      http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...cle/index_html

KUALA LUMPUR: Dijaya Corp Bhd (5401)will build a 50-storey hotel-cum-residential block costing RM750 million on a plot of land on Jalan Ampang, where the historical Bok House used to sit.

Dijaya yesterday signed a collaboration agreement with hotel and leisure group Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc to develop the hotel portion, which will be called W Hotel.

                      ...

The W Hotel will have 150 rooms and will take up the first 10 floors of the building. It will carry a six-star rating catering to discerning travellers, including businessmen.

The OH and I love visiting KL so this is the best news ever! Don't think I can wait till 2016 though!

                        • W also announced yesterday they're planning to open one in Rio also in 2016

                          • Well seeing as though it appears to be almost 3 years since anything was mentioned about the W BKK, and as I was driving past there earlier this evening - it appears this development has stalled somewhat, and by stalled, I mean going nowhere - the banner on the fence stated 'opening 2010' oh well c'est la vie...

I do note however that the 2nd of the Four Points - which is basically across the road - appears to be coming along rather nicely, I'm quite aesthetically pleased by the architecture of the building itself - quite upmarket for a Four Points...

Anyone else got any intel on the W?

                              • I've long regarded most Starwood hotel opening dates as aspirational at best, especially if they're new-builds.

W Shanghai-Pudong was announced in 2005 and was supposed to open circa 2010/2011. I visited the construction site in late 2007 where all appeared to be going well. Haven't heard a squeak since and it doesn't even appear to exist on Starwood's website now.

OTOH there's the W Shanghai-The Bund to open in 2014 which will be in a much better locale than the apparently defunct W Pudong, but in light of the above I'm trying not to get too excited....
