  • My qualifying period is from March 1st to February 28th. I will be over 25 sectors by August this year. That means that I would requalify until February of 2009?
I would be very likely over 35 sectors this year but with the upcoming changes that will change. I just want to make sure I have *G for all of 2008, this way I can start looking somewhere else for the next year as I doubt I will be spending SGD 25,000 a year at this point.

That's unclear at this point. You are not officially requalified until 28-Feb, or 30-Nov using undocumented early requalification. I don't know if SQ will recognize it as you won't officially requalify until after Sep program change. I hope they do as I am on the same boat. My PPS year is also 01-Mar to 28-Feb. Actually, it should be 29-Feb for 2008.

That means that there is a chance that even if I requalify early and fly quite a few more sectors then the 25 required, that I end up not qualifying for PPS.
At least I would still get the *Gold until 2009, quite a let down.

If you are refering to *G via PPS, from TerryK's earlier post, it appears it is a question mark as you are assuming you are allowed to re-qualify very much earlier.

For your case, it is a definite that you will hold PPS till 29 Feb 2008. But to requalify early as at 31 Aug 2007 for your PPS status to extend to 28 Feb 2009, it is still a question mark till we get more details from the official annoucement from SQ.

Unless that's the wrong link, there's no information in that article on what exactly is changing. That just looks like a (slightly hurried) press release to warn the masses in Singapore that the changes are on their way.

                cough cough......
There's only One way to fly.... SINGAPORE AIRLINES!
If SQ is too expensive, the other way to fly is Qatar Airways

                • I am not sure if this article has been posted yet - didnt read the 11 or so pages yet but I was on airliners.net this morning and camse across the following entry;

[COLOR="Navy"]SIA has announced it will be reviewing the eligibility conditions for its Priority Passenger Service Club.

In essence, it will make it much more difficult for flyers to qualify for its elite programme, and may even stop admitting life members.

Seems like the carrier wants to strengthen its premium class business by offering even more perks and making it even more exclusive - although i'm not sure how this will affect its average frequent flyer who may switch allegience.

Link to the article is here: http://www.todayonline.com/articles/176971.asp

                      No worry.
Waiting patiently for the letter/e-mail from SQ PPS Club. Hope to get all the details. But otherwise we have known the general idea what is the new PPS looks like.
And, not to forget, CONGRATULATIONS for your QPP3.

                      Wait and nervous,

Well, it may not be your last year if you meet the new criteria for PPS requalification once the new exclusive enhanced PPS taking place.

                          • Food for thoughts

Before we are getting the official announcement from SQ regarding the exclusive canges in PPS, while I am deleting my text messages, I found sms from one of my dearest friends who replied to my news about how disappointed I am with SQ. Hope you all can give answers or comments.

... I am surprised that so many are so surprised at this (new enhanced PPS)... lesser airlines have been chnaging benefits etc for the past few years. So I am curios why everyone seems to think SQ wouldn't do the same?

                            Regarding Life PPS being abolish:

Do any other FFP have lifetime status at that level? Do you really think UA 1P (or AA PLT) for life equates to PPS for life? IMHO those two status levels are a joke compared to PPS.
Both being *G is as close as they get to being the same. One can achieve 1P by flying only on cheap cheap cheap tickets, and in fact without ever having status on UA. At least with PPS it's always been driven at those buyng F & C fares.

I agree with SQ's fundamental need to control or even reduce PPS numbers.

What is surprising and discomforting is (a) their radical changes which will make it difficult for so many regular F & J-class travellers, myself included, to make the $$$25k cut, and (b) the (expected) reduction of benefits even for those who do requalify.

What is shocking and distasteful is (a) the blantant commercialism of the $$$ criteria, and (b) their arrogance and disloyalty to many travellers that have accord them with tremendous loyalty and high regard.

Whilst I don't like it, I'm not surprised at all by this. SQ is a profit making business and not a charity.

Assuming that the changes mentioned in the OP to the PPS are true, then qualifying for the PPS club will actually become easier for those prepared to spend money, e.g. £4.5k for SIN-LHR vv in F; two of these and you've more than qualified under the new S$25k criteria; but under the present system, that would give you 24 PPS sectors.
