  • F award ( sector avail but not route )

    Hi all,

Forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong place.

I've been fortunate to book an F saver award SIN - LAX - SIN for myself. I'm travelling with my adult son but after weeks of looking I couldnt find another F seat for my son. Accordingly I booked him J on the same route and flights.

I should have been happy with that and left it at that.

On a whim I looked at the individual sectors and found that on the LAX-NRT and the connecting NRT-SIN F saver seats were available on a sector basis but not the complete route ( LAX-SIN ). I understand this process of keeping certain inventory on a sector basis for commercial reasons but I cant see the need to do it for award inventory.

If I rebook awards on the sector basis it will cost a lot more points to achieve.

I tried ringing KF but was told I couldnt change the existing booking to pick up the sector availability.

Am I expecting too much and should I get back in my box and be happy with what I have. ( and recheck the full route availability from time to time )

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm booked on an F-Saver booking for this summer to LAX, he also wasn't able to get the full route on SIN-LAX (he managed to get this on the other way) so he decided to halt in NRT for a few days by using the "stopover" feature, this way he was able to redeem the route at once for 152,000 miles albeit 2 days later. Hope this helps.
The world's too large a place not to go wandering.

Married segments availability is practiced in both commercial and award bookings for all airlines.

You've just given the answer. By applying married segment logic SQ gets paid more (whether it be by reducing their liability in krisflyer miles by more or by payment from a partner FFP).
