I have a friend in the US who always does mileage runs and he flies First Class around the world for next to nothing with his miles. Is it possible to do so on SQ?

Mileage runs on SQ?

Well it's not impossible, but should be very expensive to do so. SQ doesn't have such an extensive network like some Airlines in the US that you can fly from point A to B to C then D. On SQ it's more or less point A to B.
But you can try the expensive method of flying around asia (presuming you're in Asia) on Thai, SQ, ANA and Asiana which are *A members.

I think depending on how one qualify RTW, it might be possible (with *A gaps in between). One can probably do SIN - NRT - LAX, and take a UA flight from LAX to JFK before doing JFK - FRA - SIN.
With this, one would probably have done Asia, Europe and US. Not exactly round the world, but one would have circled the world one round though. But in F / J, it would really be terribly expensive....Last edited by inix; 6 April 2010, 06:56 AM.Life's A Bitch,

Mileage runs are possible on most U.S. airlines because all fares earn miles. The trick to doing mileage runs within the U.S. is to find the cheapest fare possible between points A and B and then pick the routing that gives the maximum number miles.
Since SQ's deeply discounted fares earn no miles, it is very hard to use it for mileage runs.

If you have no budget, yes, but that won't make the economics of mileage runs. Also, if you are looking at redeemable miles, Krisflyer gold only gives like 50% bonus and like UA's gold equivalent gives 100% bonus for redeemable miles, giving any mileage runs more redeemable miles per cent, coupled with no miles on SQ's discounted fares, makes it hard to do a worthwhile mileage run on SQ.

Several years ago, I did a mileage run on TG for the sole purpose of re-qualifying for SQ*G. Most of TG's cheap fares are eligible for miles and they're a lot cheaper than SQ's cheapest mile-earning tix. Of course, I didn't earn tier bonus, but that was not my objective.
