  • US Airways with access to 77W J awards

Just checked the ANA Tool and noticed availability in J for SIN-MUC for the whole year - lots of seats on the new 77W service.

Called US Airways and issued a return ticket for 90.000 miles. SQ's pricing is 187.000 KF miles.

Currently, US Airways is running a promotion whereby all miles purchased get you double miles credited. My total cost for the return ticket in J was 1.400 USD (2.000 SGD) including all taxes and fees.

Its a max of 50,000 miles with double will give you 100,000. But sharing is also on the deal, so if I read correctly it is possible to:

Person A/B/C/D gain 100,000 miles each. =1375x4=5,500 US

Person A then shares 50,000 miles to B and likewise C to D
          So A-50,000, B-200,000 C-50,000, D-200,000 - 500x2=1000US total 6,500US

Then, Person A shares to D and C shares to B, which gives
          A-0, B-300,000, C-0, D-300,000 500x2=1000US total 7,500US

Then you could share 50,000 miles from B-A and B-C and likewise D-C and D-A which gives 500x4=2,000 Total 9,500US

          A-200,000, B-200,000, C-200,000, D-200,000

So for 9,500US, you will have 800,000 miles enough for 5 SIN-FRA-JFK and even more creative routings with upto 10segments and 1 stopover outbound AND inbound, and each SIN-JFK on SQ RT for random dates showed a cost of 15,000 SGD per person. What that means is essentially, for paying approx 15,000 SGD, you can buy one F class ticket for 3,000 SGD (Approx conversion). Amazing deal if you ask me, but the initial cost is high.

Unfortunately, F is rarely available on *A - even for the 747. Never seen on 77W...

I don't think that changes it alot either way, because even if you redeem Business Class, then there is still alot to be made out of this scenario IMO

Well, you just have to waive SQ goodbye and fly LH, LX or TG - plenty of availability to Europe in First Class. My average ticket (all in) is usually around 2.000 SGD. That's for a return trip...

Presumably LH dont charge a surcharge for F redemptions when redeeming thru US airways??? Like the do on BD redemptions (10k miles i think)

What Lufthansa does to BMI is against all Star Alliance rules. There are no "surcharges" anywhere in the network for one carrier over another.

When you redeem an award on Lufthansa through US Airways, they are actually waving the fuel surcharge!

First Class SIN-FRA-SIN on LH booked with LH miles:
180.000 miles plus 200 EUR YQ plus tax
First Class SIN-FRA-SIN on LH booked with US miles:
110.000 miles plus tax (saves 200 EUR YQ!)

I read on a.net that LH will not be allowing redemptions on their A380 First class - a bit like SQ??? Anyone can confirm this.

Glad I got a saver reward J class on A380 SYD-SIN 16APR...but the best is Suites ZRH-SIN on which I booked as an F redemption when it was scheduled as 77W. SQ tried to deny the booking to me but I told them in no uncertain terms I would go legal over it...looking forward to this trip.

I've got 12K on the SYD-SIN A380 - first time trying this product in Business - is this a good seat?

LH will go the NH way: In theory it will be possible to book F on the A380 but LH's own elites will have priority. For upgrades, LH is awarding its customers eVouchers - if upgrades are limited to those instruments, then effectively no upgrade for non-LH members.
