  • So frustrated with miscredited miles - what am I doing wrong here?

Please see my email to SAA Feedback from yesterday. They have acknowledged receipt. I wondered if I am doing something wrong or am the only one to experience this (ie. am I just that dumb?)... I'm a *Alliance Gold (BMI) and whenever I fly with my favourite airline (this one) at check in I always show them the gold card and ask if it is ok to use a lounge etc. I am really really explicit (and polite) that I want to earn miles on KFlyer (why else?) and they always reassure me, swipe the Gold card, then key in the KF number and then tell me it will all be ok.

Well, I've now lost miles from a NRT-SIN, HKG-SIN and now a SIN-LHR flight all because the miles misposted. I forgave the first two (a bit foolhardy me thinks) but this last one, the ole 12 hour beast, really got to me. So I sent the email below. What are my chances, honestly, of getting my miles back... I swear I am not trying to 'double dip' or con anyone - I live in Newton, not England - so BMI miles mean nothing to me...

Do you think they will help? What mistakes am I making? And I hope my note was polite enough... the last thing I want to do it look a fool...

    ----

    Dear Sir or Madam,

I am sorry to write to complain, if you look at a log of my feedback I hope you will see that I try to post positive comments as often as I can, as I am an extremely loyal customer.

To that end, once again I find myself really frustrated. On the 4th of July I checked in online and left to Changi T3 for my flight to London. On arrival I dropped my luggage and showed both my Krisflyer and BMI Star Alliance Gold card. I was insistent (politely) that I absolutely wanted my miles credited to Krisflyer, and I was reassured by the check in agent that this would happen. She reprinted the boarding pass which showed my KrisFlyer number and the bmi number and reassured me the bmi number was for lounge access.

I went to the lounge, enjoyed my flight as ALWAYS and now, over a week later, no miles have been posted.

I just know that what I was assured would happen, hasn't. Moreover, I also had exactly the same experience on my return flight from Hong Kong (please check my itinerary). I didn't bother to complain about those miles, but now it has happened 2 times in a row it's really annoying - and I try so hard to now be annoying...

I am sorry to complain, but I am insistent that I did was I was told in order to accrue miles on my Krisflyer account whilst benefiting from the Gold status I have (but never post miles to) on BMI.

I would be so very grateful if you could investigate this for me soonest, I know how hard it is to re credit miles, but I know I have done what I was told to do, I feel really sad that I cannot seem to get the process right - it always leaves me feeling sad about Singapore Airlines - which is NOT what I want to feel.

    Please can you help me?

    Welcome to SQTalk!

Something is amiss here. SQ boarding pass can only show one number. It is possible to enter two numbers, one for mileage credit, one for status, but the BP will only show one number.

If you are a Krisflyer member, it will show SQ number, but the mileage will go to to program shown to the right of it, probably BD*G in your case. If you want to credit to Krisflyer, it should show SQ 999999999 SQ. The second SQ means your mileage will be credited to SQ.

In that case that's what's gone wrong - it's always shown the SQ number, so I think it's all well and good - and then *BDG next to it - is THAT the problem? And if so is it going to be like getting water out of sand to get those miles back? I am an honest man and I honestly was so clear about what I wanted to happen...

      And thanks...

Yes. If it shows BD*G after SQ9999999999, then the mileage will go to BD. The code after SQ number is where the mileage will go to. You can write to BD and see if they will reverse it but it will be an uphill battle. If you want credit to Krisflyer, make sure it shows SQ9999999999 SQ in the future.

Yup long process to reverse. You need to get BD to take out the miles and then get SQ to credit them to SQ. Takes months if it works.

The advise above would help to rectify the situation but I'm more intrigued by your preference to KF rather than BD.

For a few of us on this board who live here in SIN rather than England, BD miles mean way way way more than KF miles. Think earn/burn ratio

really, am i better off collecting with BD? i had never thought about it - or actually took time to see if the redemption rates are better - are they???

i am making a mistake in my seemingly blind loyalty to sq ?

Hey, now you can access Standard and Full Awards (in addition to normal Savers which everyone can access)!

And also 50% off KF miles on some routes, 25% off on everything else... 35% off if you get PPS!

Not bad at all, I use KF quite a fair bit myself. Partner it with a credit card like PremierMiles and you can make life alot easier/nicer for yourself here and there, for real.

It's not a question of loyalty, it's a question of which program suits your needs.

Don't forget you can also credit MI miles to SQ. Another bunch of flights that BD doesn't get...

Well I thought I would check back in (no pun intended) and let you all know that SQ did in fact recredit all the miles that had gone to BMI unintentionally.

They called me often to update me, emailed me and were actually brilliant. So I am very very pleased with the exemplary customer service and it all makes me more loyal than ever to the brand. So much so since living here I've been away most weekends lah - Thailand here we come again on Friday!

God bless the best airline in the sky. Oh god I'm becoming a super geek. Thank YOU for all your advice.
