Apparently there's a new card for Solitaire, and for some reason, it's gold in colour while the normal PPS card remains Plat.

Not exactly ... read the fine print:

A1: The offers are only available to Principal Cardmembers if their Credit Card applications are approved or their Credit Cards are renewed by American Express. Even the mortal PPS members benefit: the new 35,000 mile-voucher is good for redemption in economy AND business now (new!). I consider this a real enhancement.

When all the current KF promos are gone, a saver biz flight to Australia will be 55.000 miles instead of 90.000 miles. Still a saving of 39%...

I found that really strange. Why would the Solitaire card be gold? I note that its called the "Solitaire PPS Credit Card" whereas my old card was a "PPS Club Platinum Credit Card". Positioning and colour seem at odds?

Got the pre-approved application to join the new Solitaire PPS Credit Card and I decided not to join because I failed to see the real benefits from this new card. The gold color did not help either. I prefer my current PPS Plat card.

Yes, i got the same pre-approval and i've since tossed it in the rubbish. The 50k miles (like the 35k miles) come with so many strings attached that it serves only to piss members off. SQ would really be better off to give out a reduced number of miles with no strings attached or skip all the useless perks and simply dish out 2 KF miles per SGD 1. Replacing a Platinium card with a gold one is really dumb.

I haven't yet seen that many black cards around in Asia - probably due to being the "colour of death"...

I like the approach by Coutts of giving up with metallic colours altogether and going for purple - after all, "platinum" usually ends up just being a shade of silver anyway!
