Help: short by 1600 KF miles

The missus and I are gonna need to fly to Hong Kong in May but unfortunately she is 1600 miles short to meet the 22500 required after the 25% discount. Better still, she is at 20926, just 74 miles shy of being able to do a top up at 21K. She has no credit card to accrue miles with

Any kind souls can advise what we could do here for her to get a redemption ticket?

One question, while filling up the redemption form downloaded from KF, is it possible to purchase just enough miles to qualify for the online 25% upgrade? i.e. top up from 20926 to 22500 then immediately use for the redemption?

Is there a minimum mileage requirement (21,000?) before you can do a top up (which is now available online)? I thought you just had to have at least 70% of the miles required. Do do a mock redemption booking again and see if they offer you the option of buying 2000 miles right before purchase.

If not, you might consider the newly-on-sale W fare Ex-SIN... not the cheapest but you earn miles with that (then missus would have another ticket to HKG!).

If not still, maybe you wanna try staying at a hotel in SIN (or wherever you are) with one of those triple miles promotions (those can net you about 1500 miles per stay, but be careful which room rates are eligible)...

If NOT, I leave it to other SQTalkers who might have better ideas.


Ps: I wish I could give you my surplus 3000 miles. I have no use for them now.

Just my thoughts: book SIN-HKG using her account and book HKG-SIN using your account.

Top ups come in blocks of 1000 miles, at a cost of US$40 per 1000 miles.

Well... this was a good problem to have. A call to KF today had me complete the booking in the missus's KF account. Apparently, the 70% minimum applies to the lower limit after the 25% online discount. And they have also turned on the online top up option which I believe I have not seen before.

Upon making the booking, you'd be prompted if you do not have enough miles and you will be asked if you'd like to buy miles or trash the booking. Not sure if this is a result of the slowdown in tourism.
