    Welcome to SQTalk, ephraim!

You're correct that membership of KrisFlyer doesn't cost a cent.

If I remember correctly, you won't get a real card from KrisFlyer until you fly your first flight and deposit some miles into your account.

    Hope that helps!

Just to add, you get a Krisflyer card number and an image of the KF card. With the image, you can print it out and use it as a normal card. You will only get the plastic KF card upon your first flight.

Sure, it's cool! I remember the excitement when I got my first KrisFlyer card.

KrisFlyer will only ask for your parent's permission if you're 12 years old or younger so you can go ahead and apply by yourself.

and even if i fly with star aliance airlines....i meant like united airlines or any airline that is with star aliance...i can get miles?

Just book your flights through the website/travel agent/airline directly, and ask them to add your new KrisFlyer number to the booking.

Hi Ephraim, just to add a few points, you might also like to look to applying with

                          Star Alliance:
UA (United Airlines), AC (Air Canada), NH (All Nippon Airways)

                          OneWorld:
                          JL (Japan Airlines)

These give you a plastic card regardless - at least that's what happened in the past.

Collecting a card is just the beginning. After a while it gets boring when you find that the miles you earn (and which treat you to a plastic card) are nothing but just that - MILES. Research a little bit and see which airline can give you the most benefits. If you browse through this forum, you might find Krisflyer quite a hard sell nowadays, unfortunately...

I remember that my first miles credited to my account were from a hotel stay, I received my plastic card shortly after that. So I would guess you would get your card once any miles for anything are credited to your account, not just flights.

                            SQ238.
