  • Credit Card Sign ups?

    Hi all,

not sure if there is already an existing thread on this but here goes.

I am currently a uni student and am planning to accumulate the miles needed for a J ticket redemption for when I head for my student exchange in slightly around 1.5 years. Knowing my situation, I can't really qualify for any cards myself, hence I would need to rely on my dad to get those cards for me under his name.

Seeing as there are a few cards on the market (eg citi premiermiles, amex KF, etc), which ones are the ones that are worth signing up for? Trying to pick the brains of the experts over here!
    Thanks in advance!

Do you mean supplementary cards? I'm asking because any miles/points earned will actually be accumulated under your father's name.

Yeah. But ultimately, even if the points are accumulated under my dad's name, it would be transferrable per se to me right?

If accumulated under your father's credit card, under his name, the points will only be able to be transferred to his KrisFlyer card. Having said that, he can add you as a redemption nominee and then use his KrisFlyer account to book your flight.
        Fly well,
        Travel safe,
        And have a pleasant journey.

even for the Citi PM card/ DBS altitude? given how these cards are not direct to KF

Yes, to initiate the transfer, you need to register separately with the bank for the KF miles transfer, and can only transfer to your dad's name.

And do note that to redeem a saver J it also depends on the availability during the period you wish to travel, and no grantees that you may be able to secure them as well, depending on the route you wish to redeem for.

ah i see. It doesn't help if i am a sub card holder as well?

my exchange would be in Germany, so I'm hoping the 3 german location sq flies to will have available slots.

Flying in J or F to Germany isn't much trouble - there are always seats if you are dates are somehow flexible.

Are you after a sign-up bonus and willing to pay for it? OCBC Voyage offers 150,000 miles for 3,210 SGD).

Your dad can make you a redemption nominee and can book the tickets for you - very easy.

Maybe you should think about saving rather then spending in the next 1.5 years to get yourself on a J for your flight....

1.5 years = 487 days, .... $20 bucks a day saved until then should get you the J ticket... if not on SQ, there will be other airlines...
