  • Redemption Nominee Query

    Hi,

Have just sent this off to the Krisflyer Centre to get answered but thought I'd check in with the resident experts to get your opinions.

I currently have a full Redemption Nominee list with my wife, son, parents and father in law. I need to redeem a flight for my mother in law so will need to remove one from the list - in this case my mother. My mother currently has an award booking next month so my query is, if I remove her now, will she have a problem with her flight next month?

I googled to try and find an answer and found a 2012 post on the Australian Frequent Flyer forum that seemed to indicate that I would so I've emailed off to SQ for written clarification but thought I'd check in here to see if anybody has gone through this before.

    Thanks in advance

For future reference in case anybody has the same query, here is the reply I received from SQ -

For your information, deletions of nominees can only be carried out after six months from the date the nominee was added. Such deletions can be carried out with applicable service fee.

At the time of ticket issuance, the passenger have to be nominated in the principal KrisFlyer member's account to proceed with successful ticket issuance. Subsequently, the passenger can be removed as a nominee in the principal account (if eligible).

If the passenger do not make any changes to the itinerary, passenger will not face any difficulties. In the event of itinerary changes which the ticket require re-issuance, passenger may face difficulties if he/she is not nominated in the principal member's account.

This is something that really got my goat recently, when I found out that there is actually a monetary charge to remove a redemption nominee. I was actually convinced the SQ staff on the line made a mistake when he told me that, lol, until I read it on the website.

Actually if you think about it if you can add and remove nominee as when you like then what's the point of have a limit? I'm not taking SIA side here but I believe this is to prevent abuse. I know the policy seems and sounds draconian but it also does have some merits.

Where I do hope is flexibility by SIA on a case by case basis and help out the real genuine cases. I've experienced some issues as well and some customer service officers were pretty bad and simply reading off a play book but there are also some pretty nice officers who went all out to assist. So it's the inconsistency that annoys me the most as calling their hotline is like playing Russian roulette.
