  • PPS Club Reserves: Learn the secrets of wine from the masters

Mrs Durian received this email today:

    Dear Mrs Durian,
From aroma and body, to acidity and tannin, there's much to learn about the secrets of wine.
And there's no one better to learn from, than our very own Singapore Airlines wine consultants, which comprises the world's leading wine experts - Michael Hill Smith, Jeannie Cho Lee and Oz Clarke.
Join us for an exclusive wine masterclass at Capella Singapore on 25 February 2016, as we sample a range of handpicked wines, paired with a delectable 4-course dinner.
This experience is specially put together for you as part of the PPS Club Reserves. To redeem this experience, please click on the button below to register your interest by 5 February 2016.

She was disappointed as we will be in Japan at the time of the event, what a shame as PPS is rather stingy on events... Mrs Durian's employers spend so much $ every year on premium tickets, too bad we are not around, for once SQ marketing team are getting out of their lethargy...
Then, I clicked on the "Discover more" button in the email... to find out that PPS charge 60,000 miles for this, I almost fell off my chair

This is simply so laughable and pathetic... Do SQ really think so highly of themselves that they can charge for this... ?

I felt the same way too after reading about the 60k miles only after clicking through. They should have just stated this upfront in the main body ...

Very ambitious pricing... I got the same invite two years back and met the wine panel over dinner for free... 60,000 miles is at least 1,200 SGD - better to fly First Class and buy yourself some nice wine and dinner :-)

I much prefer a redemption ticket than a wine pairing dinner.
At least, I can have a meal and a trip.

Typically that's what LH Miles and More is doing with us elites. Inviting us against miles :td:.

Totally agree with TS! When the pop up window appear after hitting the "Discover More" button, i am taken back by SQ's "generousity" in charging 30000 krisflyer miles per pax for what seem like a wine tasting/discovery and 4 course dinner. A similar program in a VERY decent vineyard would set us back €200/USD $180 at most..

Perhaps the FREE movie screening and buffet dinner next week at Great World City is consolation for the rest of us who are not buying into SQ's generosity in the wine event.

In the past few years I've only attended only one dinner that focused on outback "environmentally-friendly" holidays. They are all marketing events for the promoters, with SQ offering their exclusive PPS lists in the JV deal. Capella, of course, is a premium venue but I don't see why I want to pay someone to market things to me, and having dinner with people I don't know and maybe don't want to know. But then again, there'll always be some of us who love to rub shoulders with those who care nothing about throwing 60k miles.

I'm not so fussed about having to pay using miles but more so that they couldn't just be upfront about it not being free.

I guess it could be the marketing team's way of mining data to see % read it > % clicked through > % agreed after seeing the cost and decide at the end of the day if this was a successful campaign.
