  • Booking award in EY while waitlisting for J

    Hi friends,

    Is the above move valid?
I want to fly PVG-SIN in J but there's no availability (i.e. waitlist only).
Should I book in Y for a confirmed ticket while waitlisting in J or
Should I just waitlist. Should the waitlist not clear then quickly book a Y seat.

    What's the better strategy?

I do this all the time. It costs US$30 to cancel. So as opposed to risking not having my preferred date, I would rather pay US$30 to have some form of insurance.

It may be a good idea to do this by calling the reservations number rather than attempting the website. In my experience the website once seriously messed up when doing this, cancelling both the waitlisted seat in J AND the confirmed Y seat, when a J seat became available.

I don't know whether this is still a problem and YMMV but I am personally not willing to go through another attempt online.
