  • Redemption on waitlist

    hi everyone

a quick question, i've put in a redemption for 2 return biz class flight to Perth sometime end of May. One of the sector (outbound) is on waitlist, whilst the return is confirmed.

So I called KF hotline asking if they could help me put in a request to find a confirmed flight for me so that we can start planning the trip and also get an infant ticket for our little one who will be travelling with us.

I was told rather curtly that such 'request' is not possible unless its for medical/compassionate grounds and that I have up to 10th May (2 weeks b4 our holiday trip) to find out if my flight will ever get confirmed. Just thought it was a bit odd cos the last time I encountered similar waitlist redemption for Seoul, the person on the phone offered to put in a request and i think a week later i got confirmation.

    Has anyone encountered this?

Sorry if I'm sounding impatient, just trying to plan a first overseas travel with a 1yo then feels like a mammoth task! Any advice is much appreciated.

The request is possible but would usually only clear for people with PPS status.

I'm TPP. Flight to LHR (Friday) cleared 4 days before despite constant pestering.
I think the day you want to fly may also have something to do with it.

Thanks for the reply everyone. I manage to speak to another lady as I wanted to enquire about my miles expiring in March and she was nice enough to put in a request and I got the confirmation on the same day!

Quick question -- i want to apply a KF for my baby, is there a special KF membership for kids or just the regular KF will do?

I think KF membership is open to anyone two and above.

They used to have a "Young Explorer" club (with quite a nice membership card design ) but did away with it over half a decade ago.

Yup. My kids had that. They got to visit the cockpit on some flights, too.

Bubbles - try calling KF a few times more. You may be attended to by a more helpful person who would try harder to secure you a seat.

Having said that, if the plane is full, there really is not much they can do.

Not all my waitlisted redemption bookings have cleared but most did - some really, really late. If the trip is important, you may want to secure a paid seat first and cancel that if your waitlisted seat comes through.

Good to hear your baby cleared waitlist.

I was going to add in my post that it also depends on how popular a destination is.

In my case wife and I were confirmed. Daughter waitlisted on our flight but confirmed on following flight.

Still I sweated till 4 days before departure.

But LHR is their popular (and premium) route

Oh yes, LHR is always their popular route, I don't think I'm daring enough to bring my baby for such a long haul trip yet, so Perth is already giving me the jitters for now (I'm a full time working mom, so my helper takes care of the kid mostly and this is our FIRST trip with the kid without our helper).

If anyone is flying to Perth on business class on 24th May (930am flight) and returning 31st May (3pm flight), maybe you would like to change your flight as I have a 1yo on board with me then! Soweee

I did a redemption for my wife, son and I for Rome for April back in late December to clear some about-to-expire miles. The website put us on waitlist on the dates I wanted. A few weeks later, I called up the PPS call centre and the lady told me that there're actually 2 seats available, and if I can break up the booking, I can get two confirmed seats. So I've placed my wife and son on those seats and put myself on waitlist - in the hope that my PPS status will get me a firm seat soon.

It's now February and there's still no confirmation. Pray I don't have to wait till 4 days prior to departure.

Is this a Y redemption? If it's in J you can at least confirm in Y and waitlist in J.

Yes. I've also waitlisted on J Saver, but now am firm on Y Standard. I don't think it's worth my miles booking on J Standard.

                          Thanks for the suggestion.

You redeemed a Y standard?! Stunning!

Other adjectives applicable are: silly, crazy, desperate.

Am not quite prepared to spend S$2.5K for a Y fare. I can eat myself silly with that kind of money in Tuscany.

                              Any other suggestions, welcomed!
