Is it me or SQ website is playing with my nerves...I tried booking return flight to MEL going 20th and back 27th Dec, but kept showing no flight available? Are all flights to Melbourne now fully booked? Where is A388 when you need it....

Now looking at JQ, EK and MH as alternative....

It is a very busy time of year to start with, and with the A380's not really flying properly yet.

The A380 can hold about 100 extra passengers....

Combined with those two reasons, I would suggest that SQ has stopped taking bookings..

The 21/22nd you can now book as it's very likely the A380 will be flying those two days so they have some spare seats

My last flight out of MEL was rock solid booked. Only one empty seat in J.

My name was on a little board at the arrival gate at SIN and a nice lady gave me 1500 S$ in cash and 400 S$ in KrisShop vouchers.

A380's back to MEL & SYD 20th DEC

              18 December 2010

Singapore Airlines will be resuming all scheduled Airbus A380 operations to and from both Melbourne and Sydney.

The resumption of A380 services on SQ 227 (Singapore - Melbourne) and SQ 228 (Melbourne - Singapore) will take effect from 20 December and 21 December, respectively. Prior to that, supplementary flight SQ 263 (Singapore - Sydney - Melbourne) will operate from Singapore until 19 December 2010, and from Sydney and Melbourne until 20 December 2010.

A380 services will also be restored on SQ 221 (Singapore - Sydney) and SQ 212 (Sydney - Singapore) from 22 and 23 December 2010 respectively.

For details of the aircraft changes resulting from the A380 inspections for the period of 18 - 22 December, please refer to this document.

SIA will continue to work with Rolls-Royce to carry out regular engine checks and will continue to comply fully with an Airworthiness Directive of the European Aviation Safety Agency that is intended to ensure the continued safe operation of the Airbus A380 fleet.

We wish to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this period, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

according to the news release, 388s will be back on the 227 and 228 rotation? I thought this has been changed to 227/238 permanently.

so according to new schedules, I should be getting a 77R in late feb. can I ask any one who has previous experience. if i am ticketed in F and there is no F on the new schedule, what do they typically do?

Due to the snowstorm in LHR, some A380s due to be back in Singapore have also been delayed, so perhaps for these 2-3 days SYD & MEL might still have to use the 744 & 773 aircrafts.

Interesting - I didn't pick that up in the article.

I assume it's a mistake..... as the rotation of 227/238 started about 9 months ago.

                      • Melbourne might have lost the A380 for tonight, but the rescheduled London flight for 11.00 from yesterday was cancelled again so the A380 in gate A10 then became SQ227 for this evening. (I'm working this out based on having a friend there today on another delayed flight to LHR and then watching arr/dep at Changi all day via the net!)

                        • A couple of A388s stuck in Europe but on the same token, a few stuck in Singapore that can't fly to Europe, so no problem with A388 availability

                          • ok 237/228 might be back to 744 in Feb. Although SQ Cargo still shows 77R, bookings on website indicate 744.

                            • This doesn't surprise me. With the power of the $AU at the moment, Australians are taking off to Europe like never before. We are currently getting more Euros per $AU than at any other time since the EU was created. SQ228 connects to all the European destinations, so if they want to fill European flights, they need to get us Melburnians to Singapore, and I just don't see how a 777-200 is going to have the number of seats needed, especially Thurs-Sun.

The corollary is that fewer europeans are going to Australia to escape the winter cold.
