  • A380 upper deck Y seats

It looks like I will be doing the SQ round the world in Y and plan to use the A380 from LHR to SIN.
One thing I really like about the A380 Y class on Singapore Airlines is that on the upper deck there are 2-4-2, great when there is only 2 of us flying.

What I am wondering is how easy/difficult is it to choose and get seats in Y on the upper deck.
We have the choice to fly out of LHR, CDG or ZRH but would definitely prefer taking the morning flight out of LHR.
Is there a better chance of getting seats on the upper deck from either one of this cities.

Really appreciate anyones input who has had experience booking these seats.

    You can try:
-Online check in and see whether there are any seats available
    -Call the SQ call centre
-Go to the airport really early and try to snag those seats!

If you really must have UD seats, you may want to cough up the surcharge to get those Preferred Seats at 71AC, 71HK, 81AC & 81HK. For a long haul flight, I feel the surcharge is worth the extra legroom and comfort.
Have you checked your blind spot lately?

I am traveling with an 8 year old little boy, which won't make it possible to get those seats since they are in the exit row.
I know I can assign seats at the time of booking and I was just wondering if the upper deck seats are hard to get or similar to all other seats, as I just don't have any experience flying on the A380.

I have only ever flown the UD on the A380, am up to 5 times and will be on 9 after Xmas.

I always pay the extra for the Preferred Seating as I am 6'4. My recommendation is get the aisle seat as because of the curvature of the plane, if you are in the window(you dont get a window because of the EmEx) you have to duck to get out of your seat if your tall.

I prefere UD, quicker to deplane and less crowded for sure.

If your booking online, you can choose when you book where to sit. So as long as the flight isnt mentally booked out already you should be sweet.

          When are you flying?

            Thanks Logan.
We will be flying sometimes in October.
If I would be flying alone I wouldn't mind whether I am upstairs or downstairs and would definitely pay the extra for the preferred seating, but traveling with a little guy I try to make the long flight as comfortable as possible and having no "neighbor" on the 2 seats really helps a lot.

              Yeah can appreciate that.

You should be ok to get seats, if your travelling a week day for example, so be a piece of cake.

You will get some extra storage as well, as they window seats have bins in them on the upper deck which is good.

I didn't realize there are bins on the A380 upper deck, reminds me of the upper deck of the 747's, always loved those bins.
I am planning to fly out of LHR on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

Yes, it would not be possible to get those seats since you're with a minor. But as all the other SQTalkers pointed out, it should not be a problem getting a 2-seater on the UD, especially if it's a weekday. Try doing it online first, if that doesn't work, call the ticketing office, they should be able to help you out. Good luck!

I have the same questions when I ticketed my upcoming HKG holiday with the missus and sis/bro-out-laws...

You probably will not be able to see any UD seat availability because while seats are available for selections, there will be seats generally blocked off until D-48 when OLCI starts. What I did was to call SQRC and the kind lady was able to take a note of my request. A week or ten days later, I saw I had 73AC, 74AC assigned to be... Pretty sweet I must say.

Did you book through SQ? I guess the ticket was not booked online as you can book the seats as soon as you make the booking. The rows of 2 soon fill disappear as everyone wants them, as said if you phone up as soon as you know the flight number then you can request them.
                      Good luck!

There are only certain seats open during seat choice after booking. In the upper deck, only Rows 71 and 81 will be shown as open. More sests will only open at OLCI as mentioned

Nah thats not true and I have just gone on to my booking now which I made online via singaporeair.com and I can see that the top deck is selectable, not just the preferred seating but anywhere in Y.

My flight is not for another 4 months yet.

if you book your tickets through SQ portal, you'll be able to select the seats you like. If you book through an agent, you'll only be able to choose the preferred seats which you can select for a fee

I disagree with that too. From my own experience booking on SQ online, seats on the UD are readily available for selection. The only problem I faced was finding 2 seats together. Out of my last 4 flights on the SQ A380, only once was I able to get 2 seats together on the UD. This was one month before the flight.

As for the storage bins for the window seats, they are not available for 74A & K.
