This makes me wonder whether several years from now, say ten, those SilverKris magazines will be worth something on ebay.

I hope SQ is reading this thread...

          1. I would put both hands up if they want to remove all food menus and convert to e-menu, as i only glance at it during meal times.

          2. However, i don't support the idea of e-SilverKris. I like to read my magazines, listen to music and watch the flight path all together. I believe it will take a while to learn navigating around the e-magazines should pax be new to the application. And how about the elderlies who don't know how to use KrisWorld? my senior usually flips the pages inflight as she does not know how to use KrisWorld. It may also be a strain on the eye to look at static images/words on screen for long period of time.

          3. Perhaps SQ can compromise in some way by only removing magazines and newspaper for flights <5hrs.

          4. How are pax going to fill up that little card found in SilverKris when he/she wants to buy multiple duty-free items onboard.

          5. I believe the reason why EK can be successful in their paperless technology is because their IFE is touch screen which makes it easier to get what you want by instantly using a finger to point at it.

@fuu99 This makes me wonder whether several years from now, say ten, those SilverKris magazines will be worth something on ebay.
          6. I regret recycling all my SilverKris magazines. However, i still receive their company monthly Outlook magazines.

            Yikes!!!
I just sold away a few years worth of Silverkris magazines to the rag and bone man :O
I dont support this idea(thumbsdown) though i guess it would be contributing to saving gaia(thumbsup)

So now we can't multitask inflight?! (i.e. do what SQ322 has said in point 2) Ok, this might save some paper and fuel, but staring at the tiny screen for the entire flight to read SilverKris, watch movies and choose music etc is not exactly comfortable nor healthy. I don't support this idea!

I assume that duty free purchases will be done electronically. In other words, it won't be just an online catalog but an online shop. It should also be possible for one to pre-order online via the Internet before the flight and ensure that the desired product would be available.

What about tour groups who book their tickets via a Tour Agent and has no access to SQ website for Kris shopping? Usually when i book a flight thru an agent for a group holiday i don't get to choose my seats too. These are the people who usually make onboard purchases.

*I will never be convinced if this is a saving gaia initiative.

What's next? removing our pillows, blankets and amenities without reducing fares?

We all know the real reason why they're implementing this "enhancement"

As long as you are on a flight departing from Singapore at some point in your trip, you can pre-order using online Kris Shop and collect your purchase on flight, as long as its not mail order only.

But i'd suggest putting Krisshop, Krisworld and the silver kris magazine all in the IFE system. Who knows eh? I doubt it though...
No expert here but looking at all the replies, an e-SKM you and several others suggested seems most logical.

I agree! Nothing like holding it in your hand.
If their rationale is to be more green, why not recycle all old SKM issues?

I agree this is a stupid idea.

I can't imagine going without the Silver Kris magazine on my hand. The real enhancement here would be for SQ to upload its SKM content into an iPad and then distribute those iPads to all the pax onboard....but wait, that will involve investment and more weight....guess just not going to happen.

Can't help myself but would it be possible for SQ to remove the toilet paper and paper towel from the plane as well?....I guess if you want to have a paperless plane that should be the next to go.
